  • LOAD CENTERSGENERAL DESCRIPTION

MurrayLoad Centers—the industry standard of highestquality...designed to complement theMurray line of Circuit Breakers.

Load centers are used for the protection anddistribution of loads in residential, commercialand light industrial applications operating at 240volts AC max. Load centers subdivide powerinto branch circuits serving a variety of smallloads. They provide a switching and protectivefunction for these load circuits. Typical loadsare lighting, appliance, heating and small motorbranch circuits.

Murray load centers feature a new split neutraldesign in all single phase main lug and mainbreaker models from 100 Amp, 12 circuitthrough 225 Amp, 42 circuit. These neutralshave one insulated and one uninsulated neutralbar. For service entrance applications, use bothbars for neutral and ground conductors. For non-service entrance applications, useinsulated bar for neutral conductors anduninsulated bar for ground conductors.

Load centers are often referred to as servicepanels, circuit breaker panels, or several othernames, however, they are officially knownas panelboards.

Design/Performance Features• New insulated and bonded split neutral for

    faster neater wiring.

Two neutral bars, one bonded, one insulated, connected with a cross strap and removablebonding strap, allowing maximum versatility. For service entrance applications, connect thebonding strap and wire neutral and grounds toboth bars. For non-service entranceapplications, disconnect the bonding strapand use insulated bar for neutral and bondedbar for grounds. No need to purchaseaccessory ground bars.

Neutral bars provide two sizes of terminalsfor maximum wire range usage.

    • One-piece bus bar construction, through 200amps, eliminates heat producing joints andprovides cooler operation with longer life.Alstan® 88 plating with a copper strikeensures maximum electrical conductivity andcorrosion prevention.

    • Circuit breaker landing pads provide branchcircuit breakers positive fit and alignment.

    • 100 through 225 amp load centers are offeredwith combination surface/flush covers forgreater inventory flexibility substantiallyreducing inventory space and investment.

Covers are attractively styled one-piece trimand dead front design featuring an easy toopen and close sliding latch.

    • NEMA 3R enclosures are constructed of G90galvanized steel painted with anelectrodeposition process providing uniformcoverage for maximum protection againstcorrosive environments and an attactiveappearance.

    • Bus protectors to guard against contaminationduring installation and finish constructionwork.

    • Drywall gauge visibly embossed on fourcorners of enclosure to facilitate proper flushmounting.

'1;Types MQH & MQL may be mounted internal in 150-225amp 30 main breaker load centers, and in 225 amp 10main breaker load centers.

Series RatingsSeries ratings allow two or three breakers tobe connected in series, such that the 2nd and3rd breakers have an interrupting capacity lessthan the system available fault current. Suchcombinations must be tested, and onlybreakers of the type and ampere rating testedmay be used in this combination. Typicalusage of series ratings would be main andbranch circuit breakers in load centers. Themain breaker must have an interruptingcapacity at least equal to the available faultcurrent. However, the branch breaker mayhave an interrupting capacity lower than theavailable fault current, provided the pair havebeen tested together as a series-rated pair.

Industry and GovernmentSpecificationsMurray load centers meet or exceed the latestedition of the following industry standardsand Government specifications, unlessnoted otherwise:

    IndustryNEMA—Standard #PB1

    UL—Standards #50 and #67

US GovernmentStandard # WP-115b, Type 1, Class 2 coversload centers through 200 Amps.

Spaces Versus PolesThe number of "spaces" available in a loadcenter is the maximum number of 1" singlepole circuit breakers that can be installed inthat load center. Because most load centerswill accept half-size breakers, the actualnumber of single pole breakers that may beinstalled is often more than the number of 1"spaces provided. In compliance with therequirements of the National Electrical Code,a physical means is provided to prevent theinstallation of more circiut breakers than thenumber of breakers for which the load centerwas designed. This means of circuit limitingallows the load centers to be UL Listed as"Class CTL".
