The next phase of the loop will extend from Highway 55 in Apex to I-40 near Greenfield North.

There are currently five different routes being considered by the North Carolina Turnpike Authority.

Two of the routes being considered would have the Triangle Expressway intersecting with I-40 within one mile to the south of Greenfield North. The remaining proposed routes would bring an

interchange to Garner located no further than five miles from Greenfield North.

THE OUTER LOOP The Triangle Expressway (I-540) Southeast Extension project began in 1997 and has over 30 miles of completed freeway in a radius around Raleigh.
