JUNE 14, 2020
JUNE IS SENIORS’ MONTH At a conference in January 2020 Pope Francis spoke about the gift of age and the importance of caring and ministering to the elders in our community. “Life is a gift, and when it is long it is a privilege, for oneself and for others. Always.” He called on the Church to care for the elderly, going to them with “a smile on your face and the Gospel in your hands”. He reminded us that, in the Bible “longevity is a blessing”, and that the elderly, too, have a place in God’s saving plan. “Aware of the irreplaceable role of the elderly”, the Pope said, “the Church becomes a place where generations are called to share God’s loving plan, in a relationship of a mutual exchange of the gifts of the Holy Spirit”. Both old and young, he said, are “the future of the Church”. In particular, Pope Francis said that grandparents are “the indispensable link in educating children and young people in the faith”. The elderly, he insisted, should be not only the objects of the Church’s care, but also “actors in a pastoral evangelizing ministry, privileged witnesses of God’s faithful love”. We thank God for the witness and example
of our parishioners who are living in the second half of life. Their participation in
the life of our parish is essential.
LIVING THE GOSPEL BY HELPING VULNERABLE YOUTH Incarcerated at a youth detention centre, 18-year-old Rodrigo didn’t know what his future held. Upon his release, he was referred to Covenant House, which partnered
him with a Youth in Transition worker. Together they developed a plan that included regular counselling sessions and enrolling in an alternative school program. Now living back at home, Rodrigo’s future is open to so many possibilities. Our Parish Goal this year is $115,000
To-date we have raised $50,095! Thank you to all those who are dropping off donations to ShareLife at the parish office. This kind of sacrificial caring for the most
vulnerable has been truly magnificent!
MINISTRY WITH MATURING ADULTS The Ministry with Maturing Adults seeks to support the lifelong faith development of women and men throughout all phases of the pre-
retirement and retirement years.
Christian Meditation will be held each Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. This meeting is held online, you may join using your telephone or computer, Smartphone, Laptop, I-Pad. If you wish to participate please email Catherine Ecker at caecker@archtoronto.org and details will be sent to you.
VON SMART (Seniors Maintaining Active Roles Together) a gentle fitness program designed for people age 55+ will be moving to
Tuesday mornings. When our parish is open and VON is ready to offer in person classes the group will meet on Tuesday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The current participants will be automatically registered in the Tuesday group. For details or to be added to the wait list please call 705-737-5044 ext. 211.

SOLEMNITY OF THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST
Today we celebrate Christ's gift to us of the Eucharist, the source and summit of our life together as the Church. In the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy we read “the Eucharist is the primary source of the Church’s energy for carrying out its mission in the world” (par. 10) Every time we share in Holy Communion may we remember that it is union with God and union with our brothers and sisters who eat and drink with us at the Lord’s table. May we live as the one body of Christ.
A PRAYER FOR ORDINARY TIME God of wisdom and love, source of all good, send your Spirit to
teach us your truth and guide our actions in your way
of peace. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ,
your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.
Amen.
