HOW LUCKY WE ARE TO HAVE KNOWN
SOMEONE SO HARD TO SAY GOODBYE TO
Amy Poehler once said, “You have to remember that goodbyes are
temporary because no one ever really leaves and nothing lasts forever.
People are always with us, because they are in our hearts and in our
memory. The only thing we can depend on is change...” With this in
mind we bid Au Revoir to people we hold in esteem. In French, this
farewell literally means, "until meeting again."
Angel came to us three years ago and used his discipline and
skills to further improve efficiency of our home-delivered meals
program. He’s provided courses like “A Matter of Balance”, and helps
everyone he meets to live life to the fullest. He also diligently monitored
the safety of LCCOA consumers, home-bound and at the center.
We are sad to announce that Friday, September 15th will be Angel
Heredia’s last day as the Troy Site Director. He’ll be moving back to New
York State to be closer to family. The past 3 years have made him a part
of our family as well. Angel, anytime you are back in Missouri, please
stop by and say hello again. We’ve been honored to meet you. You are
truly a blessing.
From every coworker, volunteer, client & board member of LCCOA, safe
travels Angel! You’ll always be a dear friend.
ATTENTION ALL VOLUNTEERS—DRIVERS, CRAFTS, ACTIVIES, KITCHEN, OFFICE, ETC…
If you volunteer at any LCCOA location or event, please give your name and address to
ATTN Lindsey at the Troy LCCOA, or your local site director, and they will forward it to
the Troy site. Thank you all for your help and cooperation!

There is a saying, “Growing older is not for sissies.”
Would you agree with that statement?
Name 3 things about aging that you have found most difficult?
Now name 3 things that have gotten better with age?
Remembering the positives associated with aging is essential to our
continued emotional and spiritual well-being! Every day should be a
celebration of the life and the years we have been given. There is a time
for us to be young and, if we are fortunate, a time for us to grow old.
That is why our motto at LCCOA is “Live Your Best Life”.
Write in (Attn: Lindsey Kelley) and let us know
your thoughts on the questions above.
We will share some anonymously
in a future newsletter!

Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (MCBS) The Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (MCBS) is in process. Trained interviewers are setting up appointments with and interviewing beneficiaries across the country. Please be advised, some Medicare beneficiaries will receive direct contact to conduct either a phone or in-home, in-person interview. To informed beneficiaries, this may sound like fraud. In fact, recently the CMS Regional Offices received a few inquiries from SHIPs and SMPs on behalf of beneficiaries contacted to participate in the survey. Please share this email about the survey within your teams and beneficiaries. The Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey is run out of the CMS Office of Enterprise Data and Analytics (OEDA). CMS partners with the University of Chicago’s National Opinion Research Center (NORC). The MCBS has been in the field for 25 years collecting information on Medicare and the health and well-being of the beneficiaries. This is not a marketing nor a quality assessment survey of providers. The survey collects information on beneficiary out-of-pocket expenses and utilization and overall Medicare experience. Over 1 million interviews have been collected. It was one of the ways CMS determined that Part D was needed as a benefit. The MCBS is continually in the field and is an in-person survey – i.e. they interview the beneficiary in their home Every Fall they contact new beneficiaries to participate in the survey. Participants are in the survey for a total of 12 interviews over 4 years (3 interviews per year). The MCBS is listed in “Mail you may receive from Medicare” regarding eligibility selection into the survey, and the team works with 1-800-MEDICARE to help alleviate the fraud questions beneficiaries may have about the survey. If at any time a MCBS survey participant questions the survey, they can be referred to
1-800-MEDICARE as all of the selected beneficiaries are in the 1-800 system so that they know they were specially selected. Additionally, the MCBS letter is also on the “mail you may receive from Medicare” website.
The MCBS respondent page is located here: https://mcbs.norc.org/

Angel’s Angle TROY
September is here and it is bringing autumn, soon to be followed
by winter and, as the four seasons continue to rotate through the year,
our lives also march on in fulfilment of their respective destinies. All we
can do is let it happen and enjoy the journey. As for me, I hope to be
enjoying “whiter pastures” fairly soon.
This is my last article for the newsletter as I expect to be on my
way to Upstate New York by the end of this month. It has been almost
three years since I joined the LCCOA staff, a time that seems
simultaneously long and short. Long because of the less than pleasant
things that happened, such as clogged drain pipes, last minute schedule
changes and even that ornery rooster that joined us for a while. Short
because of all the successes and friendships and smiles and the
multiple other things that made it easy for me to come to work.
I don’t like goodbyes but, for every hello there has eventually to be
a goodbye. If a goodbye is difficult it’s because the experience was
great. The time you spend together matters more than the actual
goodbye. Some goodbyes don’t leave much hope for a return hello or
even serendipity. But, who knows? Perhaps our paths will cross again.
I don’t expect it to be at a Cardinal game; more likely at the Troy
Walmart.
My last words to you are the same as my very first, several years
ago: Stay active, sweat a little if you have to. It is part of the life cycle
and it eliminates impurities. It may help you “Live Your Best Life.”
