What is a life cycle?

All organisms have a life cycle that has a beginning and ending. During the life cycle the organism can often take different shapes and sizes. The Butterfly life cycle is very dramatic with different stages and forms from a tiny egg, to a caterpillar, to a pupa, and lastly, to an adult with wings.

Stages in Butterfly Life Cycle

The butterfly begins as a tiny egg.

The egg hatches and grows into a caterpillar or larva.
