Lab Safety

                                  

                                                 

General Lab Safety: Do not enter the lab area until

you have permission from the teacher.

Keep the lab area clean and uncluttered.

All equipment should be handled carefully.

Never eat or drink in the lab. Follow all written and verbal

directions. If you do not understand a direction, procedure, or piece of equipment ask the teacher BEFORE proceeding with the lab.

IMPORTANT!! Conduct yourself in a responsible

manner at all times. There is NO horseplay in the lab.

Do not hit, chase, or bother other students in the lab. If you cannot follow the rules

you will be asked to leave the lab area and will receive a zero on the assignment.

Breaking Science Safety Rulesmay ban you from future labs.

Glassware:Never use broken glassware.Always clean glassware before

putting it away. Immediately tell the teacher if

any glassware gets broken.DO NOT CLEAN IT

UP YOURSELF!

Heat: Always wear safety goggles. Never heat anything unless

instructed by the teacher. Test for “heat” with the back of your

hand. Always tie back long hair. Use proper equipment when handling

objects that have been heated.

Electrical:

Do not plug too many things into one outlet.

Never touch anything electrical with wet hands.

Safety Equipment:Know the location and

operating procedures for all safety equipment

Report any and all accidents to the teacher IMMEDIATELY.

Chemicals: Never smell chemicals directly. Never taste or mix chemicals unless

instructed to do so. Always wear goggles when working

with chemicals. Ask the teacher before disposing

of any chemical waste.

Notify the teacher immediately if chemicals have been spilled.

DO NOT CLEAN IT UP YOURSELF!

Extras: Perform only experiments authorized

by your teacher. Read all procedures BEFORE

beginning a lab. Experiments must be

monitored at all times. Do not wander around the room, visit with other groups, or distract other students in any way.

Final Information---- SAFETY FIRST! SAFETY SECOND!! SAFETY THIRD!!!

No Warnings will be given for misconduct. You will be removed from the lab and given alternate assignments for up to six-weeks!
