Ms Paine is still on leave due to the passing of her father. Our thoughts are with
her and her family. Linda Charlton, Narelle Barrie and Angie Wilson will be
alternating as relieving Principal during her absence.
NAPLAN
This has been a busy week with NAPLAN, with all the tests now over. The students worked very
well and I have been impressed with their efforts, working hard and giving their best. Well done,
Year 3 and Year 5!
Thank you to the teachers and to all the parents and carers who prepared and supported our
students to ensure that NAPLAN ran smoothly.
KITCHEN GARDEN
I would like to welcome 3 new chickens to the Kitchen Garden. I brought the girls in on the first
weekend of the school holidays and they have become friendly with the older girls quite well.
They are all Rhode Island Reds. They have just begun to lay. Great big thanks to the three
families who helped look after the chickens in the holidays and to Cate Patterson for her
organisation.
Every Friday after school Jackie Janosi and myself are in the Kitchen Garden for anyone who
would like to join us. There are always a few jobs to do to keep the garden looking good. Come
over for a chat while you dig!
Unfortunately we have seen a number of cases of nits in various classes. Please be vigilant and
check your children’s hair for lice and nits every night. We have also had more cases of
impetigo, so if your child shows any symptoms of this please see your doctor immediately for
the required treatment.

Please make sure you get your permission notes and payment in for the Athletics Carnival which will be held on Thursday 2nd June at Pitt Park. We need all notes and permission slips before the end of May so we can finalise arrangements.
The District Cross Country is on Friday 20th May. Those students who qualified need to return their notes and money as soon as possible.
The after school AFL clinics will be resuming soon. Representatives from the AFL will be at Friday’s assembly and can hand out flyers to any interested students or their parents/carers.
Andrew Nicholson, Sports Co-ordinator
The plastic bags for our Smith Family/Stewart House collection have been sent home with the students
today.
This clothing drive helps over 19,000 disadvantaged children and families from the ACT and NSW every
year. The recycling of this clothing also saves water, energy and reduces waste going to landfill.
This is a great opportunity to cull out your wardrobes and put any clean, used clothing
or manchester that you no longer need into the bags for collection by the Smith Family.
The bags can be brought into school and left in the Lost Property area up until
Friday 3rd June. Extra bags will be available from the front office if you need more.
We appreciate your support for this worthy cause.

The Library will be open every morning before school from 8.40
until 9.10 and after school from 2.55 until 3.30. The school

Winter Magic is nearly upon us and again this year Katoomba Public School P&C are going to run one
of the Rubbish Rooms,. This year Katoomba High School is going to join us which should mean we
have more volunteers and make it easier for us all.
All I need is one hour of your Winter Magic day to stand in the Rubbish Room and direct people to
the correct bin for their waste.
Last year, a small group of volunteers saved 2 tonnes of waste from ending up in landfill...let’s do it again! Please consider donating an hour of your time
between 9am and 6pm to staff one of the Rubbish Rooms.
What’s needed, is that you spend an hour directing people to
the correct bin - compost, recycling or landfill.
There is NO heavy lifting and NO waste handling. Shifts are each hour e.g 8 -9am, 9-10am etc up to the last shift
at 4-5pm. We need three people rostered on for each hour long
shift.
Please call me on 0487 899 469 and let me know which time slot
you would like, and also your mobile number. Feel free to rope
in a non-school helper too!
