Rationale
Many students have difficulty conceptualizing distances on Earth and a more difficult time
conceptualizing distances above Earth. In addition, many students may not be able to connect previous
knowledge they have acquired in science to chart, for example, where aircraft travel in comparison to
weather balloons, sounding rockets, or spacecraft.
