Tutorial 1 Activity 2
Use the plus (+) and minus (-) signs in front of words to force their inclusion and/or exclusion in searches.
EXAMPLE: +meat –potatoes
Use double quotation marks (" ") around phrases to ensure they are searched exactly as is, with the words side by
side in the same order.
EXAMPLE: "bye bye miss American pie"
Use truncation (or stemming) and wildcards (e.g., *) to look for variations in spelling and word form.
EXAMPLE: librar* returns library, libraries, librarian, etc.
EXAMPLE: colo*r returns color (American spelling) and colour (British spelling)
In Boolean searches, always enclose OR statements in parentheses.
Always use CAPS when typing Boolean operators in your search statements. Most engines require that theoperators (AND, OR, AND NOT/NOT) be capitalized. Other engines will accept either CAPS or lower case,so you're on safe ground if you stick to CAPS.
B) EXAMPLE: "immune system" AND homeopathic (medicine OR remedy) EXAMPLE: Yosemite (campgrounds OR reservations)EXAMPLE: +meat –potatoes

B) Off-site backups are essential because they allow you to store data somewhere else
and out of danger and minimise risk of having data loss or attack.
C) A full backup is a complete backup of everything you want and the restoration is fast
since you only need one set of backup data.

Incremental backup involves the backed up software creating several copies of all the
files that have been changed since previous backups or of any type. It’s the fastest
method when creating a backup.

B) The problems that can occur are repetitive strain injuries and carpel tunnelsyndrome. Symptoms include stiffness in wrists, sore eyes, cramping, weakness andtension stress.
Activity 3
a) Ontario Ministry of Labour (September 2004), Workstation Layout and Lighting. Computer
Ergonomics. Available from:http://www.labour.gov.on.ca/english/hs/pdf/gl_comp_erg.pdf [Accessed: March 19,
2012].
The factors that make this a poor pdf layout design is that is does not have a proper structure such as a
contents page and the layout structure of the document. It doesn’t help the reader to understand the
format of the document etc. Also its not appealing to the audience as it is only text no pictures etc.
B) Gupta, C.K. (12/3/2012), service.tax. Service tax provisions. Available from:, Finance Bill
Web site: http://www.servicetax.net/download/budget_2012book.pdf [Accessed: March19, 2012].
The factors that make this a good layout pdf is that it’s well-structured. It includes a title page a
background theme and a table of contents which helps the reader understand the document and to locate
a specific part of the document. Also it includes bold and underlined text types as well as tables to
represent figures and facts. This all makes the document well laid out and formatted and makes the reader
able to understand it and benefit from it.

b) You can use collaboration tools when creating mind maps by utilising the features available. You can
add dot points as the structure of the map. The topic of the map is centred and the information is put
around it. Collaboration tools allow you to add key concepts of your topic. Not only can you add texts but
also add media such as videos and web links. Also you can make it creative by changing font sizes and font
colours to make it appealing to yourself.
Tutorial Activity 3
A) Cloud computing is the delivery of computing as a service rather than a product, whereby shared
resources, software, and information are provided to computers and other devices as a util ity (like
the electricity grid) over a network (typically the Internet). Cloud computing provides computation,
software applicational programs, access to your data ,data backup and storage resources without
requiring cloud users using locational services and other details of the computing structure.
B) Advantages of apple icloud includes:
Storage of music, videos, photos etc.
Wirelessly pushes them to your device
Updates phone ,ipad
Photo stream
Apps, books, documents and backups everything
Contacts back up
Syncs
c) Another application that uses cloud computing is Amazon cloud it allows you to upload files from your
computer, access them from anywhere and secures them safely. In other words it’s a personal hard drive
d) The advantages to using cloud backup service are following.
1. Services are always reliable
2. Encryption enforces the data security.
3. Disk-based backup is in this service
4. Installation of backup site, server and huge data storage systems are not needed
5. Data centers of cloud backup service are properly secured by the service provider.

14
The disadvantages of using cloud backup service are following.
1. Seeding may take more time if the data for backup is large. For example a 1000GB backup for a
large company may take months to seed data through internet.
2. Identifying how the data will be stored is difficult whether to an offsite place is not sure.
3. Security for the information that is stored on server of third party provider because the access to
data may lose or get breached in some cases.4. Large restores in case of a complete crash may take hours for downloading the files from the
cloud backup server.
5. High Internet bandwidth is needed for the backup system connections.
Tutorial 4 Activity 1
a) UWS needs an acceptable use policy to protect the IT investment that the university carries out.
The use of IT resources, networks and information to help support teaching and learning is only granted for members of the UWS community. Also to protect and ensure authorised users and
only authorised users can access the UWS network.
b) When there is a breach of unethical or illegal activities it will be report immediately to the director
of information technology. Once the director has investigated the case they then decide whether it
is a serious breach or not. In most cases the director will suspend the user from access to the IT
resources of UWS for a defined period of time. Students and staff have their own policy
agreement and according to each agreement the outlined procedures will be taken into action.
c) AAPT : http://www.aapt.com.au/Acceptable-use-policy
Tutorial 4 Activity 3
A) Televisions in 5 years’ time will be developed into a more technical way greater that what
is currently available today. Screens will be bigger, more definition in the display. Larger
real life effects making you feel as if you’re in the action. More peripheral devices will be
made to enhance your experience with TV viewing.
All TVs will be only viewed on digital
High digital bandwidth
3D viewing will be more common

B) I am generally confident that I can generalise my results to the whole student population
at uws because my questions are plain and simple and are both close and opened minded
questions. If a student doesn’t know what a question means then they can simply answer

a) It is a very confusing experience using a computer for a typical task without the use of your
familiar abilities. We usually have websites that have content on it and easy navigation to locate
content we need. At first remembering the commands to perform a task will be difficult.
b)
Put brochures out in healthcare facilities to inform disabled people about adaptive
technologies so that they can be able to be trained to use them if they need to work with
computers.

designing websites.
Providing training courses of adaptive technologies in schools and universities for
disabled.
Discuss the ethics and moral of who is able to view the websites in regards to vision
capabilities and other disabilities.

No captions to explain the pictures. This slide follows from a previous slide which has bullet points
describing timelines this slide doesn’t have any references for audience to understand the timeline
concepts.
b) This is a power point for entrepreneurs. It is a guideline for them to be successful. This
slide is plain and simple. The use of simple and highly indicative text fonts is great. The
red font at the top makes it almost the focal point and stands out for audiences. Then the
main text stands out. The background is supporting the text stand out.
Great slide great background picture and font size and structure and layout allows the
audience to understand the concept of the text and the meaning of the picture.

The best thing about this slide is it gets straight to the point. Big bold black text to

Tutorial 7 Activity 2
After a week of trying out Evernote and evaluating it and comparing it to SpringPad I have found that Evernote ismuch better. It is better when it comes to Ease of Use and design and customisation however SpringPad beats itwhen it comes to organisation. When it comes to purpose for university work or business use to make notesEvernote should be used. Also evernote has the ability to connect to 3rd party apps such as scanning notes and pdf files. It can encrypt specific notes with Microsoft word and integrate with outlook. SpringPad can be used to addnotes by looking up personal use things like products etc. They both can be synced offline with a desktop app andios devices. Evernote has global hotkeys. When it comes to organisation springpad wins.

SpringPad EverNote
Notes, Tasks and Checklists
Work can be bookmarked
Saving work quickly
Connect with your Social Network
Save Photos
Locate Businesses and Services Alerts and Reminders
Take notes everywhere for eg. ipad
Save work Immediately and Effectively
Planning
Sync and back up data
Work amongst friends
b) I would prefer to use springpad as it is simpler than evernote and more organizational features
also for business use etc and can connect to social networks. The resource doesn’t take up any
space on your RAM or hard drive as it as a online application whereas EverNote has to be
downloaded and installed and it will take up space on the computer.
