Integrated Pest Management

• Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is an approach to pest control that uses regular monitoring to determine if and when treatments are needed and employs various tactics to keep pest numbers low enough to prevent intolerable damage or annoyance. Least toxic chemical controls are reserved as a last resort.

NAP IPM Policy Statement

Applicator Certification

• Michigan (Michigan Dept of Agriculture)and Federal (FIFRA) law regulates pesticide use

– The City requires anyone applying pesticides on city-owned property to be certified through the State of Michigan

– Commercial Applicators must take a “Core” exam and at least one category test (i.e. Forestry (2), Turfgrass (3A), Ornamentals (3B), Right-of-Way (6), etc)

Environmental Certifications

• Leslie Park Golf course is a certified Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuary and Michigan Turfgrass Environmental Steward

• Huron Hills is not currently certified but work has begun.
