TEAMS C*MPffiTffiIhe pouuer ol individual values and their expression were central lo the execution ol
two very dilferentcampaigns designed by public relations and advertisittg students this year.
A team offive PR students took on the tough challenge ofencouraging young people to fight back against bullying,
creating a campaign asking them to Mahe Vaues (Reali.ze,
Respond, Reach Out) as part of the national Bateman Case
Study Competition sponsored by the Public Relations
Student Sociery of America.
Some 36 students working in five departments as Partof the student-run Circle Advertising created a
campaign to persuade \Talmart shoppers to
purchase Glidden paint around the idea that
people choose a color to call up a memory
theywish to "echo" in their lives. The campaign
was part of the annual National Student
Advertising Competition (NSAC).
In both instances, digging deep into the needs and
psyche of their target audiences was the key to developing
a coherent campaign.
The PR campaign developed by Kaidyn Bracken (BA/
PRA' 1 3), Hanna \Tilliams (BA/PRA' I 3), Caitlin
Valtierra (BA/PRA'14), Devon Hillard (BA/PRA'14)
and Nicole Mynot (BAiPRA'14) included a presentation
to parents and games to help elementary school children
identify bullying behaviors as well as the long-term
consequences for bullies, their targets and those who
refuse to get involved by reporting or responding to
the actions of others. The advertising campaign led by
account executives Bryce Anderson (BA/PRA'13),
Olivia Barker (BAJPRA'13) and senior KarinaAlonso (BFA/Graphic Design'13) involved
a wide range of activities and partnerships
with Disney, communiry improvement
events and social media activities on Pinterest
and the DYI Network, among others.
In both instances, students learned valuable
lessons about collaboration, the value ofin-depth
research, the need for constant coordination and
communication within their teams and their own
strengths and weaknesses; as senior Mi Mai says
"it helped push me beyond my boundaries."
