Parma and immigration

Parma is naturally split in two parts by the river.

For centuries the rich have settled on the west side, in the historical centre, while the lower classes have traditionally lived on the other side, the so called Oltretorrente.

Oltretorrente

Lots of immigrants are now living in Oltretorrente .

The local inhabitants organize activities to improve the relationships.

Homeless…

At the beginning of the year a group of foreigners slept in S.Cristina Church because they had been evicted.

On the busRecently

somebody wrote to the local newspaper complaining because immigrants don’t pay the bus-ticket.

As a matter of fact, locals do the same.

WorkOnly few immigrants have

qualified jobs. They frequently are factory workers, road-sweepers or cleaners.

The number of Chinese stalls is increasing.

The immgrants’ presence is very limited:
