Competence Assurance - Guidelines for Building a

Successful Program

Gateway™—The First WADI Program

WellSharp Update

Stepping Up & Out - Strategic Communications

IADC – Recent Developments

Provides valuable lessons learned from those who have

gone before you in building a successful competence

program.

This document offers essential guidelines for building a

program from scratch, but the information can also be

used to evaluate your existing program against industry-

recommended guidelines, or to combine the best

elements of multiple programs.

IADC believes that a future is possible in which every

person, on every rig, is competent to successfully and

consistently perform his or her job role.

Strategic Communications

“When we don't tell our story, other people will.”

“Each time we refuse to talk to the media is one more chance

we’ve given up to tell our side of the story to the public.“

“The industry has to go out and tell its story… Until that’s done,

it’s going to be other people that define the industry,”

The fact is that the vast majority of the world population is living

significantly longer and better as a direct consequence of cheap and

abundant fossil fuel.

Light, mobility, health care, agricultural effectiveness,

entertainment.... the list goes on and on. None of these things are

possible without energy, and fossil fuels are still the practical

solution.

Positive Messaging

More than 50% of IADC’s training providers have

transitioned to the new WellSharp.

Collectively, the group is responsible for training about

80% of all trainees in the industry, with current training

pass rates at 85%.

WellSharp is designed to ensure that rig crews know

what they need to do and have the skills to do it right,

every time, all the time.
