Name: Julia Shuck,IAAS World EditorHometown: Perry, Missouri, USAUniversity: University of Missouri, College of Agriculture, Food and Natural ResourcesField of Study: Agricultural JournalismFavorite IAAS memory: Going to EDM 2010/11 in Switzerland was an awe-some experience! I really learned what IAAS is all about and got to meet amazing IAAS’ers from around the world- I can’t wait to share what I learned with my LC : )Favorite food: Spicy! Spicy anything- mango habanera buffalo wings, unbear-able chicken tenders, “mai aow pet” Thai food, spicy salsa, gallo pinto spicy Costa Rican salsa, anything that makes my mouth burn! Interesting fact: I am the only person in my family with passport and have visited countries on every continent except Antarctica.

Dear IAAS’ers,

It has been a privilege to get to know many of you either through IAAS events or from the articles you submitted. Even though I just received your articles and pictures, I feel like I have gotten to know you through your words. Editing some-one else’s work is very personal and I hope that I kept the meaning of everyone’s words to the truest of their intentions.

I had the great pleasure of attend-ing the 2010/11 European Direc-tor’s Meeting in Switzerland. This was an amazing opportunity to meet many of those that submitted articles and IAAS members from around the world. This has also helped to give me a clearer vision for IAAS World, the IAAS magazine that will debut at World Congress 2011 in Macedonia.

Editing and compiling the 2010 IAAS Annual Review has been my

pleasure and I thank you for this opportunity and everyone’s help- this couldn’t have been completed without the hard work of the EC, a special thanks to Lara and Susanne, as well as the amazing efforts from the Control Committee, Lyda, Nadya and Dita : )

I am thrilled that this year’s theme is “Food and Identity” because I feel like I was able to learn and bond with each of you, just be-cause of the foods we eat! I share some of my favorite foods with some in this issue and others have peaked my interest in seeking out new foods to try! I can’t wait to get some of the recipes in IAAS World, which comes out in time for WoCo Macedonia 2011.

Also, by editing submissions from around the world, I really enjoy the different smiley faces that are used! I think each has so much personality, yet they transcend language barriers and even if the articles were written in a different language, I would have understood the smiles. ^^ :D :) >_<

Again, I would like to thank every-one who submitted articles and look forward to your receiving your recipes, interviews and research articles for IAAS World 2011. Please feel free to e-mail iaas.editor@gmail.com if you have any ques-tions or submissions. Thanks and have a great year!Sincerely,
