• Make a Plan– What will a social media presence do for you?

• Complete your social media profiles– LinkedIn– Facebook

• Schedule time to social network– Post regularly: once every day or two

• Post “real” items• Remember your audience• Use apps to monitor your brand

• Be searchable on Google Improve your SEO– Include key words you want associated with you– Update your pages regularly, especially LinkedIn– Link yourself to other relevant websites

• Pay attention to Social Media Blogs, Books, & Articles– Mashable.com– Netted.net– Socialnomics.net

• Your Website = Home Base– All info should flow here– Use appropriate video– Have a separate site for family/specialty information– Discriminate about what you make public

Etiquette• Don’t complain…unless it’s REALLY funny• Be positive, but not fake• Be selective about whom you friend– Don’t be afraid to “unfriend” someone

• Don’t post anything that could get you fired– Don’t post that you’re looking for a new job until

you have an accepted job offer– Complaints about current company or its leaders

LinkedIn• Complete your profile

– Get recommended

• Include a relevant and positive title– Not “Enthusiastic Job Seeker”

• If you need to speak with a 2nd Connection:– Find a mutual friend and

request an overture
