Here is a short introduction of some events in German history.

World war I started in the Balkans .

On June 28, 1914, archduke Franz

Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary and his wife

were murdered in Sarajevo, Bosnia-

Herzegovina.

At the start of World War I, President Wilson had declared the neutrality

of the United States .The sinking of the

Lusitania and other German actions against civilians drew American sympathies to the Allies.

Cheering the end of world war I, on

Nov. 11, 1918 .The long, horrible

war had taken the lives of nearly 10

million soldiers.

World War II began on Sept. 1, 1939,

when Germany invaded Poland .

Germany's dictator, Adolf Hitler, had built

Germany into a powerful war

machine .

Germany, Italy, and Japan formed an

alliance known as the Axis. Six other nations eventually

joined the Axis .

Talking to his men, general Dwight D.

Eisenhower, commander of the

Normandy invasion, wished

paratroopers luck before they

dropped behind German lines in

France on d-day.

D-day—June 6, 1944 .

It was the largest sea borne invasion

in history .

During world war II the B-24 bombers

were used to strike factories, railroads, and other industrial

targets .

Oct. 3, 1990, millions of Germans

celebrated throughout the

country, including these people at

Berlin's Brandenburg Gate.

Germany has a beautiful

landscape.It is rich in

history.

Like most countries Germany likes to

party and celebrate.

To learn a new language, you need to learn the culture of the language you are

studying.We will study both language and culture

of Germany.Culture includes, history, music, art, and

day to day life.
