FraternityStatementsRegardingReportsOfSexualAssaultAndHazingInThe201415AcademicYearSigmaChi(statement):TheSigmaChiInternationalFraternityimplementsaholisticapproachtoeradicatinghazingthroughpolicy,education,andaccountability.Wecarryastrictzerotolerancepositionwhichservestounderpinourworkonthesubjectwehaveinvestedsignificantresourcesintocreatingtopnotcheducationalprogramminggearedtodriveculturechangeandwehaveheldeverymemberandchapterfullyaccountableforanyreporteddeviationfromourvaluesorpolicy.Withregardtosexualmisconduct,ourapproachisidenticaltotheabovepolicy,education,andaccountability.Ourpositiononthematterisquiteclearwewillnottolerateit.Inthesummerof2014,wehelpedlaunchtheFraternalHealth&SafetyInitiative.TheresultofthateffortisprogrammingwhicheducatesmembersoftheGreekcommunityaboutsexualmisconductandhowtopreventitwehavedeliveredthiscurriculumtothousandsofstudentsthisyearalone.Anymemberwhocommitssexualmisconductorsexualassaulthasbeenandwillcontinuetobeheldfullyaccountablebythefraternity.AttributiontoChristianWiggins,PiKappaPhiChiefOperatingOfficer:PiKappaPhihasclearpoliciesandexpectationsintheareasofhazingandsexualmisconduct,andthefraternityprovidesourstudentswiththeeducation,training,andmatureadultguidancetomakegoodchoicesandtounderstandtheconsequencesoftheirchoices.PiKappaPhiisunequivocallyopposedtoallactsofhazingandsexualmisconduct.PiKappaPhiusesacomprehensiveeducationalapproachwithourmembers,officers,andvolunteersthatreinforcesthefraternity'sconcernforhumandignityandmutualrespect.PiKappaPhialsopartnerswithourhostinstitutionstoaddresstheunderlyingcausesofhazingandsexualmisconduct.WhenchaptersandindividualmembersareunabletoconformtotheFraternity'sexpectationsandstandards,PiKappaPhiaggressivelyinvestigatesandtakesappropriatedisciplinaryaction.PhiDeltaTheta,RobertABiggs,ExecutiveVPPhiDeltaThetahasanoalcoholpolicytotryandcombattheseareasofmisconduct(hazing,sexualassault,poorscholarshipandrelationswithadmins/alums.Whetheryouare18yearsoldor80yearsold,24hoursaday,7daysaweek,365daysayear,thereisnoalcoholonthechapterpropertybyanybodyunderanycircumstances.Theyrelookingforabalancedfraternalexperience,notsomethingwhereImjoiningadrinkingclub.Ifthatsexperiencethatyouwant,gosomewhereelse.Butifyouwantavaluesbasedfraternalexperienced,cometoPhiDeltaTheta.BetaThetaPhiMartinCobb,directorofcommunicationsCountertowhatisassumedbytheheadlinesthatoftenfocusonthenegativeaspectsofsocietyincludingthepoorchoices,decisionsandmistakesbyyoungcollegemenandwomenBetaThetaPiisknownfortakingdecisiveactionwhenitsmembersorchaptersviolateitshazingpolicyandstandardsforconduct.Certainlyaminorityofincidentscomparedtotheorganizations10,000undergraduatememberson128campusesacrossNorthAmerica,oneneedlooknofurtherthanBetasrecordofchapteraccountabilitywhichiscoupledwithawardwinningeducationalprogrammingandmentorshipthroughitsMenofPrincipleinitiativetounderstandBetasreputationofleadership,responsibilityandpurposefulyouthdevelopment.

Likewise,BetasattitudeandphilosophytowardsexualassaultisbestexemplifiedthroughareallifeexamplesuchasourChapterPresidentMitchellCoxattheUniversityofUtah,whowasrecentlyfeaturedontheDr.Philshowforourchaptersleadershipontheissue.AwardedwithasignificantgrantfromtheRobynMcGrawFoundationfortheirsexualassaultpreventioncampusprogramming,thecultureofthatchapterdemonstratesBetasbeliefthatfraternitymenareuniquelypositionedtoleadontheissueasaresultoftheorganizationalstructure,leadershiphierarchyandmanpower,andfraternityvaluesthatincludeacommitmenttothecommunity.SigmaPhiEpsilon(RobJepson,seniorcommunicationsmanager)SigEptakeshealthandsafetyviolationsextremelyseriously,includingallegationsofhazingandsexualassault.Weexpectallofourstudentstobehaveaccordingtoboththeiruniversityspoliciesandours,andweworkwithouruniversitypartnerstoremovestudentsorchaptersthatposearisktostudentsafety.Ifanindividualmemberviolatesoneofthesepolicies,theyfacesanctionsincludingexpulsionfromourfraternity.In1991,ourBalancedManProgramreplacedpledgingwithanexperiencefocusedonequalrightsandresponsibilities,continuousdevelopment,andaccountability.Weare100percentcommittedtothisexperience,andweareunwillingtoallowchaptersthatposearisktostudentsafetytocontinuetooperate.KappaAlphaOrder(JesseLyons,AssistantExecutiveDirectorforAdvancement&EditorofTheKappaAlphaJournal)"KappaAlphaOrderhasastrictriskmanagementpolicy.ReportedviolationsarealwaysinvestigatedbyourNationalAdministrativeOffice,preferablyandwhenpossible,inpartnershipwithourhostinstitutions.Wheneversanctionsarewarranted,theymayincludeeducation,probationofvariouskinds,aswellasmemberexpulsionandsuspensionofchapterchartersandoperations.Riskmanagement,bystanderbehavior,leadership,andvalueseducationaretheprimarycomponentsofourconsistent,annual,andtargetedconferencesandprogramming."ATO(WynnSmiley,CEO)WethinktheGreeksystemshouldbealeader.We'reencouragingourchapterstonotonlytakeastandbuthelpeducatethebroadercommunity.SigmaAlphaEpsilon,spokesmanBrandonWeghorstAnyformofsexualmisconductorhazingbyanyone,brotherornot,collegemanornot,iscompletelyunacceptable,andwedonottolerateactionsthatareinconsistentwithourmission.Webelievethatanyonewhocommitsanyillegalactsshouldbeheldaccountableandfacepunishmentthatisappropriateforthoseactions.Inaddition,anyindividualbehaviorthatdeviatesfromSigmaAlphaEpsilonsbeliefsdoesnotandshouldnotreflectonothermembers,otherchaptersorotherfraternitymen.Whenincidentsarebroughttoourattention,wetakeactionimmediatelyandwillnothesitatetotakecorrectivemeasuresorimposesanctionsonanymemberorchapterthatfailstofollowtheexpectationswesetforth.Similarly,wearecommittedtoinvestigatinganynewcasesorallegationsastheyarebroughttoourattention.Weprideourselvesonourcreed,knownasTheTrueGentleman,andwehaveproudlysupportededucationandtrainingthatcombatsbothhazingandsexualassaultinourcommunitiesandholdsourmembersaccountable,includingtrainingatlocalandnationaleventsandpartnershipswithoutside
