Fluair 100/200: 3 to 17.5 kVThe Fluair range: a reliable installation
The Fluair rangeThe Fluair range comprises a series of homogeneous, compatible, factory-builtpanels, designed for use in MV installations rated from 3 to 17.5 kV.
Since the switchgear units are of a withdrawable design and can be used with aremote control system, the range is ideally suited for all types of applications andinstallations which call for:■ continuity of service;■ easy commissioning;■ quick assembly;■ user and system safety;■ flexibility in operation;■ easy extension;■ low maintenance costs.
Inside the range, the Fluair 100/200 is used to build single or double busbar 3 to17.5 kV distribution switchboards encountered in:■ electrical power-generating stations (feeds to station auxiliaries),■ primary substations in the public distribution sector,■ in MV process installations,■ in distribution and final distribution substations in the industrial or tertiary sector.
Metal-clad substationsThe Fluair panels are made up of factory-built metal enclosures of the metal-cladtype in accordance with IEC international standards. These panels comprise 4 fullyself-contained compartments:■ a switchgear compartment,■ a cable connection compartment,■ a busbar compartment,■ a control gear compartment. All the metal frames are permanently connected together electrically.
Degree of protectionIP 3X or IP 5X to IEC 529 (a higher level of protection can be provided on request).
Surface treatmentAll the metal surfaces in the panels are treated against corrosion:■ the outside panels are protected by galvanisation and with an epoxy polyestercoating standard colour RAL 1011 or RAL 7030, and have been put throughthe surface tests laid down in standards IEC 68-2-11.■ the internal partitions are protected against corrosion by galvanisation, withchrome passivation.
N.B. For other ratings please consult us.
InterlocksOperating safety is enhanced by a series of interlocksdesigned to:■ prevent incorrect operation,■ prevent direct access to current-carrying parts,■ restrict access to the network control equipment.
Withdrawable circuit-breaker unitsThe Fluair range of panels are fitted with withdrawableSF6 circuit-breaker units.
The circuit-breaker and its operating mechanism, mounted on a slide-out truck make for fully-visibleisolation and simple, 100% interchangeability. This technology provides the users with the bestguarantee of continuity of service for their installations.
Rigorous testingThe Fluair panels have successfully undergone thetype approval tests set down in the IEC internationalstandards, including:■ dielectric tests,■ temperature-rise tests,■ mechanical endurance tests,■ short time withstand current and peak withstandcurrent tests.
In addition to these standardised tests, therequirements for other types of installation can alsobe met. For example:■ resistance to humid conditions,■ resistance to internal arcing (in accrodance toIEC international standards).

Fixed portionThe fixed portion is equipped with all the devicesnecessary for the withdrawable unit to be connectedand disconnected in total safety:
■ bushing, electrical insulating and containing built-infixed contacts,■ sliding metallic shutters, can be fitted withpadlocks, and which automatically blank off the fixedcontacts; the shutters can be manually operated toinject a signal to search for faults on cables,■ bolted-on panels, which can be removed at thefront in order to access the busbar set and the currenttransformer’s secondary,■ an arrangement, to maintain the continuity to earthwhile the unit is being pulled out or inserted,■ an insertion disabling interlock which can bepadlocked (padlock not supplied), automaticallypreventing the insertion of the withdrawable unit if theearthing switch is closed,■ safety interlock to prevent closure ofthe earthing switch if the unit is in the “in service”position,■ a multi-contact connector, used to connect auxiliarycircuits.
Fixed portion for circuit-breaker.
Fluair 100/200: 3 to 17.5 kVCircuit-breaker compartment
Options for fixed portionThe following optional auxiliaries and accessories are available for the fixed portion:
■ 5 or 12 change over contacts, used to signal the “ inserted ” or “ withdrawn ”positions,■ “ voltage on ” indicator lamps,■ an earthing switch: the position of this switch’s flags is clearly visible fromthe front and indicated from the rear of the panel (see also cable connectioncompartment),■ padlocks: 4 padlocks can be fitted for the earthing switch and 2 for thecircuit-breaker (withdrawn position),■ a foolproofing interlock, which only allows withdrawable units appropriate tothe panel to be inserted into the panel,■ a front door, the addition of which creates extra space, which can then takethe withdrawable unit in the “ isolated ” door closed position, giving the IP5Xdegree of protection (steps are taken to maintain alignment of front panels).
Circuit-breaker panel
The circuit-breaker compartment is totally enclosed by metal walls. It houses awithdrawable unit which can take up 3 positions:
■ “ in service ” : unit latched in the plugged-in position,■ “ isolated ” : unit latched in unplugged or test position, with fully visible isolationachieved by disconnection of the moving portion from the fixed portion and closing ofthe shutters,■ “ withdrawn ” : unit outside the panel.

SF6, the switchgear gasFluair circuit-breakers use sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) for isolation and breaking. The active parts are housed in an insulating enclosure of the sealed pressuresystem type, in compliance with IEC 56.
The devices used to equip the Fluair range of functional units have outstandingfeatures:
■ long service life,■ maintenance-free active parts,■ high electrical endurance,■ very low switching surges,■ operating safety,■ insensitivity to the environment,■ breaking capacity and dielectric strength maintained at atmospheric pressure,■ low filling pressure.
Circuit-breaker rangeCircuit-breaker ranges are used in 7.2 to 17.5 kV cubicles. Breaker operation isbased on SF6 technology.
The circuit-breaker is of the sealed pressure system type. The gas-tight enclosure isfilled with SF6 at a low gauge pressure of 0.15 MPa (1.5 bar).
A pressure switch with a NO contact for continuous monitoring of the SF6. Lowpressure filling guarantees reliable gas-tightness.
Circuit-breaker ranges are actuated by RI type spring stored energy operatingmechanisms.
Self-expansion interrupting principle for LF circuit-breaker rangeThe operating principle combines the rotating arc technique with the effect of thermalexpansion.
The contacts are housed inside a chamber which provides the volume for expansion.
Circuit-breaker closed (fig. 1)
Main contacts open (fig. 2)The main contacts open and the current is transferred to the arcing contacts.
Arcing period (fig. 3)The arcing contacts separate. The arc is cooled by rotation, caused by a magneticfield created by the coil when the current is low. The over-pressure of thermal originproduced by the arc in the expansion chamber extinguishes the arc by forcing it intothe hollow contact.
