Reading Travel Poems

Rhyming Words

The ends of words which rhyme sound the same when we say them.

There are many words in

the poem that rhyme.

Homophones

Homophones are words that sound the same but have different meanings or spellings.

Homophones make the poem more meaningful.

Irregular Verbs

Some verbs have there own rules they are called irregular verbs.

Irregular verbs are often used in poems.

Alliteration

Poets often use alliterations as a way of emphasizing words.

Words beginning with the same consonant are called alliterations.

Similes Poets often compare some thing to some thing else to make a vivid picture for the reader . This way of comparing one thing with another is called a simile.

Synonyms Words which have similar

meanings are called synonyms.

Poet often use synonyms in writing poems.

Proper Nouns and Collective Nouns Proper nouns in the

poems are written in capital letters.

Collective nouns are used to name group of individual things when they are gathered together.

Comparative Adjectives and Adverbs

Comparative are used in poems to make it more interesting.

Some words can be used to compare things.

We make most comparative adjectives and adverbs by adding -er. Some times we put more in front of the word when making a comparison.
