to the 2009 Aircraft Maintenance OutsourcingConference & EXPO.What a year it’s been since the last EXPO in Atlanta! The worst recession for 80 years and itsresultant fall out for the aviation community has made 2009 the year for attention grabbingheadlines in the aviation press. Bankruptcy’s, cancellations and delivery pushbacks havereeked havoc in 2009, with the pain felt throughout the industry. However, in adversityopportunities can be found. As a result of the financial pressures being felt by one and all, there has been a major overhaul of operations and supply chains resulting in a higher thannormal number of contracts ‘up for grabs’. Many companies have reported receiving a recordnumber of RFQ’s and their sales staff have never been busier. Those companies who placedthemselves in a position to grab these opportunities are reporting strong growth, even in themidst of the downturn. This can easily be seen by looking at the growth in registrations forour other events. Our flag ship show, the Airline Purchasing & Maintenance EXPO, held inLondon next May, is already over 85% sold, well ahead of the same point in last years salescycle, while advance bookings on all our other events are also well ahead of last year.
You join us in Florida in time for our name change. Aviation Industry Exhibitions is no more –we are now UBM Aviation Exhibitions, reflecting our position within one of the worlds B2Bmedia giants. While the name may have changed, the same team is on hand to look after youand deliver an event which so many of you come back to time and again. Looking forward tonext year, the Airline Purchasing & Maintenance EXPO is set to have another record year andthe Aero-Engine Conference and EXPO will be moving to Hamburg and the prestigiousCongress Centre Hamburg (CCH) as part of the promise we made last year to alternate thatevent between London and the European Continent each year. Aircraft Maintenance EXPOUSA is planned to stay in Florida for 2010 with a venue to be announced shortly. Should yoube interested in joining us at any of our events in 2010, please feel free to drop by the UBMAviation booth and talk to our team to discuss your options.
If you turn to page 12, you’ll see details of our annual awards – the only truly democraticawards in the industry as all nominees and winners are decided based on the views of you,the people who make up the aviation industry. Re-branded this year as the AircraftTechnology Engineering & Maintenance (ATEM) Awards to more closely reflect the linkbetween the magazines subscribers and the award voters, nominations are now open. Theseawards will offer you the chance to vote for your favourite MRO in a number of categoriesand the winners will be announced at our Airline Purchasing & Maintenance EXPO on the 4thMay 2009. To vote, visit www.atemawards.com.
We hope you have an enjoyable and successful time at the show, please feel free to come andfind us with any feedback you have on the show, your input is important to us. We lookforward to seeing you again in 2010!
