PASTOR
Dear Friends: Welcome to the Season of Advent 2018.
A Parable: You die. You are dead. And in that place between wakefulness and dreams, you discover that you have crossed and gone to the other side of this life. There are no distinguishing features save for the fact that you suddenly see the Lord standing there before you holding a red huge book. The Lord asks, “What is your name?” You announce your name. The Lord begins to turn page after page; page after page of the huge book. Finally, after what seems like for-ever, the Lord says, “Here’s your name on this page, but the page is empty; how old are you?” You announce your age and the Lord says, “What did you do with those years of the life I gave you? Your page is empty!” There is a long pause, and you don’t know what to say. Suddenly, you hear loud, frightening and horrible noises and voices of wailing, grinding and gnashing of teeth from what seems like a room down the hall. The Lord says to you, “You don’t belong here, you belong to that room down the hall.” You are visibly shaken and shocked and intuitively you instinctively fall on your knees and beg: “Please Lord, let me go back to the other side of life, just give me one year of life back to my former life and I will surely fill up the empty page with good works; I will serve and minister to my sisters and brothers so that my page is not empty; please Lord.” The Lord says to you, “No, you cannot go back; you had your chance of those years I gave you and you made your decision already; you cannot go back.” You suddenly wake up from this dream and check the time: it is 3:00 am. You are sweating profusely and you sit up on your bed. You try to go back to sleep but cannot. This dream stays with you till the next morning and several days after. After a while you realize this was no coincidence: God is trying to tell you something. After several times of prayer, reflection, and meditation it becomes very clear to you that you ought to do something with your life: you need to change the direction of your life. What are you going to do? How are you going to live your life differently? Are you going to assume and just continue to live your life as you have been doing? What major changes are you going to make? The Lord has certainly spoken to you; what is your response? xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx During this Advent Season, what do you want to change about the way you are presently living your life? Do you want to continue same in and same out? Do you want to continue operating on “auto-pilot?” The Advent scripture readings are pretty powerful. What’s your response going to be? The homily at the weekday Masses will be omitted to allow and provide for a moment of quiet reflection on the richness and power of God’s Word in the readings of this season. Make Advent a time for personal reflection on where you stand as a Christian accepting the gospel challenges in thought, word and deed. Assess your relationship with your family, friends, working colleagues and other people you come in contact with, especially those of your own parish. Examine whether you are able to give any positive contribution to other people’s lives and to eradicate the abuses which are part of our society. Attending weekday Masses will assist you in these various areas of your life.
Something to think about:
Three men died and went to heaven. St. Peter met them at the front gate and said, “Heaven is a great big place, and we always assign
people a vehicle to get around based on how faithful the people were to their wives or husbands.” Peter turned to the first man and gave
him a Cadillac; the second man got a motorcycle and was somehow disappointed, but he figured that it was fair, based on his degree of
faithfulness to his wife. The third man got a scooter and although disappointed, he knew what his life had been like. The man who had got a
motorcycle went driving down one of the streets of heaven, and he saw the man who got the Cadillac parked on the curb, and he was crying
loudly. The motorcycle man stopped and asked, “What in the world are you crying about? You got the Cadillac.” “I know,” said the Cadillac
man, “and I just saw my wife go by on a skateboard.”

The assistant minister was much impressed with the new minister, and he could hardly wait to tell his neighbor, a skeptical farmer about the
new minister. “He’s got a B.S., and M.S., and a Ph.D.,” the assistant minister proudly said to the farmer. “Well, I’m not much on these
educated preachers,” the farmer said. “We all know what B.S. stands for. M.S. means ‘More of the Same’ and Ph.D. means ‘Piled higher
and Deeper.’ ” Masabakhwa says: “Go figure.”
May you have a blessed, reflective and transforming Advent Season! Fr. Masabakhwa, R.

CHRIST OUR LIFE CONFERENCE FOR OUR
SEARCHING SOULS SHARING FORUM
Thoughts, Reactions, Inspirations, Feedback,
Impressions, Reflections… Christ our Life Points of Interest:
Matt Fradd took the very difficult topic of pornography and
made it comical, interesting, and very informative. I came to
realize that as technology advances, we need to stay in front of
these issues by attacking them head on with honesty with those
we love. Very good information to have even as our children are
older and out of the house because it is information we can use
as we become grandparents.
Father Leon Pereira reminded me that we may be spoiled in our
western culture and religious beliefs. I realized that we are only
doing the minimum. We live in a great nation and many people
participate in the season of Lent but really we are minimalists
when it comes to practicing the difficult aspects of Catholicism.
This nation is rich in many ways, but poorer, in religion, than
many countries we may view as inferior. His entire presentation
was a reflective hour that made me realize I may not be OK
with God and caused me to take a deeper look at what I am
doing as a Catholic; really taking part in what I believe.
I always need to be reminded of the importance of understand-
ing and partaking in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. I am very
glad that it was offered and once again reinforced in my life.
