COUNCIL DIRECTIVE 2011/70/EURATOMArticle 8 - Expertise and skills
“Member States shall ensure that the national framework require all parties to make arrangements for education and training for their staff, as well as research and development activities to cover the needs of the national programme for spent fuel and radioactive waste management in order to obtain, maintain and to further develop necessary expertise and skills.”

INPE STUBA
2014-2015 – Accredited study at Bc., MSc. and PhD. level in Nuclear
and Physical Engineering.
- done 2014, accreditation valid since 09/2015
(reason – escape from general power engineering scheme)
2014-2019 – Preparation and performance of post-gradual training
courses for Slovak or international institutions in operation or
decommissioning of nuclear facilities
2015 – Preparation and performance of European Decommissioning
Academy (collaboration with IAEA and EC)
- done EDA started at 7. June 2015
From 220 NPPs in Europe works about 135, but
only about 10% of all shut down plants have been
fully decommissioned, the rest being at different
stages of “safely enclosed”, “dismantling” and
“decommissioning”.
This growing decommissioning market creates a
potential for new activities, with highly skilled jobs in
an innovative field.

National RAW Repository
FCC container
National RAW Repository in Mochovce is near-surface repository,
intended for final storage of solid and solidified low-activity and medium
activity wastes.
RAW Repository is a complex of buildings and technological facilities,
serving for handling treated RAW from its delivery to the repository to the
final storage. The repository consist of a set of storage boxes, arranged
in row and double rows.

Lessons learned
EDA - 2015
The first run successfully passed 15 participants during 7.-20.6. 2015.
Academy was focused on decommissioning issues via lessons, practical exercises
in laboratories, on-site training prepared at NPP V-1 in Jaslovské Bohunice,
Slovakia as well as 5 days technical tour to other European decommissioning
facilities (Swiss, Italy), respectively.
Detailed information can be found at http://kome.snus.sk/inpe/.

Scope of EDA
Decommissioning according to IAEA and EC directives,
Nuclear safety, Radiation safety and protection in decommissioning
(Special laboratory exercises),
Decommissiong cost calculation and project management,
Decommissioning planning and licensing
Legislative requirements for decommissioning,
Transition period, management of decommissioning projects
NPP decommissioning and RW treatment experiences, Management of
materials from decommissioning
Strategy of back-end part of nuclear energy,
Storage of RW and deep repositories.

Organisation of EDA
http://www.ujfi.fei.stuba.sk/
Education, training and proper knowledge
management has to be skills oriented –
therefore we accent:
- on-site training,
- technical tours,
- laboratory exercises,
- best practices exchange
EDA quality depends on quality of teachers.
We addressed best experts from Europe to participate
