For customers upgrading from a release earlier than Version 6.4, you can access and review new features
and functionality for each prior release on the EastCoast Customer Portal.
Design to Fabrication Components Overview
The EastCoast CAD/CAM Design to Fabrication software system provides a streamlined workflow that
allows users to move from design to fabrication with one set of products.
MEP Design to Fabrication is the tool for converting MEP engineering designs (duct and pipe
systems from Revit, or generic AutoCAD MEP duct systems) to Fabrication-ready drawings using
automated routines, saving significant fabrication detailing resources and time. MEP Design to
Fabrication works inside both Autodesk’s Revit and AutoCAD MEP software. Customers have the
choice of purchasing their CAD seat(s) with or without an MEP Design to Fabrication license.
EC CAD includes several software components. Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP software is
integrated directly inside AutoCAD MEP, to give users enhanced detailing capability and tools to
work with real-world specifications and sizing for duct, and real manufacturer mechanical content.
Customers choose to install only the elements of Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP that they are
licensed for and plan to use - Pipe, Duct, or Combo (for both Pipe and Duct functionality).
PartManager is the user interface to the EastCoast manufacturer library and database that is used by
Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP, providing easy access and organization and management of all
parts, fittings, valves and shop defaults being used for project design. EC Project is the software
tools and database for transferring As-built Sheet Metal drawings into Revit as native Revit
objects. A limited license of EC DuctMaker is also included with EC CAD. This limited licenses
provides EC CAD users with the ability to review their fabrication pickoffs in DuctMaker and to
gain full CAD and CAM access to the EastCoast manufacturer library and database.
EC DuctMaker is the CAM software tool, providing a fabrication interface used to build a highly
customized duct library that can be shared with design team colleagues, via Fabrication for
AutoCAD MEP Sheet Metal. DuctMaker contains a comprehensive library of Oval, Round and
Rectangular fittings and duct as well as specialty parts. It accepts Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP
pickoff lists, estimating downloads, and allows for more editing if required. The software downloads
fittings directly to the shop floor plasma cutters, liner cutters and coil lines, and uses barcode
scanners to track the inventory of items during fabrication.

3.1 New Features and Enhancements
Duct Dimension Inlet and Duct Dimension Outlets Specification Rules
In V6.3.14 the DUCT DIMENSION specification rule was implemented to simplify specification
creation. When setting up connector reinforcement using DUCT DIMENSION the software is going to
reinforce every connector, which means that when the fittings are put together they will be reinforced on
both sides of the joint. That is fine for some contractors, but others prefer to only reinforce one side of
the joint.
To accomplish this, two new specification rules have been implemented: DUCT DIMENSION INLET
and DUCT DIMENSION OUTLETS. These rules have the same functionality as DUCT
DIMENSION except that instead of looking at every opening, DUCT DIMENSION INLET would
only look at every inlet opening, and DUCT DIMENSION OUTLETS would only look at every outlet
opening.
Taps can only reinforce the outlet connector, so the specification rule DUCT DIMENSION has been
removed from the taps portion of the specification and has been replaced with DUCT DIMENSION
OUTLETS for clarity.

EC DuctMaker Limited License included with EC CAD
A limited license of EC DuctMaker is now included with EC CAD. This limited license provides EC
CAD users with the ability to review their fabrication pickoffs in DuctMaker and to gain full CAD and
CAM access to the EastCoast manufacturer library and database. This can prove useful for CAD
detailers that wish to review their pickoffs in more detail before sending them to the shop for fabrication.
Additionally, this license enables the ability for CAD detailers to import specifications and manufacturer
defaults into the EastCoast manufacturer library and database.

Preface
Total Station Point generation is used to expedite field installation of your systems
Total Station Point export will occur at a later stage process within your CAD modeling and
detailing workflows
The typical order is expected to be performed as follows:
CAD Modeling, Coordination, and Detailing
Fabrication Spool Drawing Creation
Fabrication CAM Pickoff Creation
Total Station Points Export
Workflow
With a specific portion of your CAD model complete we are ready to get started with Total Station
points generation.
Total Station point generation is handled through the Total Station tab on the Fabrication Palette.
You will want to determine how the project will be staged and thus how to best group the types of
points to be exported and combined into point export files.
This can be structured within the Total Station tab folder structure.
Once the folder structure has been determined you are almost ready to commence with your Point
Group definitions.
All the points that are automatically generated by the program will be automatically generated during
the Point Group definition process. However, during the Point Group definition process you will
also select any other custom points that you would like to include in your Point Group. So, before
you start with your Point Group definition you should first place any associated custom points that
you would like to include in the Point Group.
Design to Fabrication V7.0 Release Notes EC CAD
EastCoast CAD/CAM 16
Then once all your Custom Points have been placed you are ready to define your Point Groups.
You can select all the points that you would like to include in your Point Group during Point Group
Definition or you can decide to define the Point Group with one or more point types and then use the
Modify Point Group options to Add more points to the group.
AutoTag can be used to annotate all the different point types in your drawing. Use Auto Tag
Manager to setup the automatic tagging to meet your requirements.
After your Point Groups have been defined you will be ready to create your Point Group Export Files
and your Point Group Schedules.
For more information regarding the Trimble Total Station Integration and workflow refer to the EC CAD
Pipe and Sheet Metal User Guide – Design to Fabrication V7.0 “13.5 Trimble Total Station
Integration”
3.2 Resolved Issues
Aecb_Duct_Elevation_TODBOD_OffsetTag_Tag_Top Tag Definition
Design to Fabrication V7.0 Release Notes EC CAD
EastCoast CAD/CAM 17
The Aecb_Duct_Elevation_TODBOD_OffsetTag_Tag_Top tag definition on the EC Schedules and
Tags.dwg was incorrect and was labeled as Aecb_Duct_Elevation_TODBOD_OffsetTag_Tag_Center
instead of Aecb_Duct_Elevation_TODBOD_OffsetTag_Tag_Top.
C1Straight Tag Insertion Point
The Aecb_Duct_C1Straight_Tag_Center tag insertion point has been fixed. The Horizontal and Vertical
Offset Tag Properties will no longer have to be adjusted accordingly in the AutoTag Manager.
Connector DuctSpecOverride Scheduling
When you run DuctSpecOverride on the connectors the C1-4Name ECDuctSystemData property sets
wouldn’t update correctly. Since the property sets didn’t update, the schedules and tags would report
incorrect information. C1-4Name property sets will now update correctly when DuctSpecOverride is
ran and the schedules and tags will report the correct information.
Deleting Environments
You can now successfully delete environments from the database when using PartManager or
DuctMaker. If the environment is large you will receive the warning “Deleting this environment may
take some time. Would you like to continue?”.
Rotated Oval Couplings on Risers
Oval Couplings will place with the correct dimensions and no longer be rotated when inserted in duct
risers.
System Gasket Issue
Pipe and Pipe Fittings couldn’t be moved when the EastCoast system gasket was part of the system. This
was due to the part not having ‘Break into Part’ checked on in Content Builder. ‘Break into Part’ is
checked on in content builder for the system gasket in this version. Pipe and Pipe Fittings will now be
able to move when the EastCoast system gasket is part of the system.
Valve, Gate – Wheel Handle AutoCAD MEP Display
An internal database change has been made to the Valve, Gate – Wheel handle to fix a display issue in
AutoCAD MEP when joint 1 and joint 2 were different.
3.3 Known Issues
Anvil, Milwaukee and Watts
Anvil, Milwaukee, and Watts manufacturers female thread 3 joint has a cosmetic display issue. All
fittings using female thread 3 are still dimensionally accurate to the real-world parts. The EC Start
Drawing Template or any existing template file using the EC – Thread x Weld routing preference will
need to be modified to accommodate for the new female thread 3 joint fitting setups for any existing
template files. The V7.0 EC Start Drawing Template is setup correctly and no modifications are required.
Design to Fabrication V7.0 Release Notes
EastCoast CAD/CAM 18
We will be releasing a content drop on the EastCoast Customer Portal as soon as possible to correct this
display issue.
AutoCAD MEP Object Viewer Liner and Insulation Display
Liner and insulation will not display correctly on Round and Oval Gored Elbows, Radius Elbows, and
Ogee Transitions when viewing them via the AutoCAD MEP object viewer.
AutoTag Manager Rules
There are multiple known Duct Elevation AutoTag Manager rules that don’t currently work correctly.
The “On duct prior to transitioning fittings” rule is not working for Rectangular, Round, and Oval.
The “On duct after transitioning fittings” rule is not working for Oval.
Duct Routing Performance
You may experience some jumpy cursor movement when routing depending on the complexity of your
duct specs and the performance of your computer hardware.
Insulation Display on Attached Views and XREF Files
Insulation will not display correctly on Round and Oval Gored Elbows, Radius Elbows, and Ogee
Transitions on attached views and XREF files.
US Pipe Flange, Slip On
When using the automated gasket insertion during routing, 3 gaskets are being inserted instead of 1 as
expected when using US Pipe Slip On flanges that are using the flanged pipe joint. If you manually insert
the gaskets by using a selection set and the gasket commands from the ribbon it will insert 1 gasket as
expected. We will be releasing a content drop on the EastCoast Customer Portal as soon as possible to
correct this issue.

The fittings that have the ‘CombineFaces’ option are the Round Elbow Gored, Round Elbow Mitered,
Round Offset, Oval Elbow Gored, Oval Elbow Mitered, and the Oval Offset.
Equivalence Table Enhancements
DuctMaker now can support multiple Equivalence Tables. Different Equivalence Table requirements
may be needed depending on the connector that is being used. As an example, the angle ring connector
may have a tighter tolerance than other connectors. There is now a dropdown in the Round and Oval
Design to Fabrication V7.0 Release Notes DuctMaker
EastCoast CAD/CAM 19
Connector Table under the Allowances that allows you to select a round and oval Equivalence Table
for each connector.
Estimating Integration Improvements
The Interior specifications for Rectangular, Round, and Oval Duct are now part of the estimate
XML files. Examples of interior specifications are Interior Material, Interior Gauge, Interior
Lock, Interior Special Instructions, Interior Status, Interior Connector In, Interior Connector Out,
and the newly added parameter Interior Type. Since the Interior specifications are part of the
estimate xml file, you can now control / override the parameters as desired. This is the same as
controlling / overriding the Exterior specifications that are part of the estimate xml files for all
fittings.
Fittings Sheer Report and Job Inventory Report Improvements
There were multiple Fittings Sheer Report improvements that were implemented:
The way the size field is reported and exported to excel for the standard fittings sheer report has
been modified. The Length and Stretch Out values are reported in two separate columns with a
header above it called ‘Blank Size’.
The fitting blank size on the detail screen wasn’t consistently matching the blank size on the
Fittings Sheer Report and custom sheer reports. The detail fitting blank size will now always
match the blank size on the Fittings Sheer Report and custom sheer reports.

The Canvas Connectors will now report on the Fittings Sheer Report, and the stretch out value
will equal Circumference + Male and Female Locks. You will have the option to include or not
include the Canvas Connectors in the properties of the Fittings Sheer Report.
There was one Job Inventory Report improvement that was implemented:
The Canvas Connectors material used is now part of the Job Inventory Report. The material
used is the total stretch outs per Canvas Connector shape and material. You will have the option
to include or not include the Canvas Connectors in the properties of the Job Inventory Report.
Labels Report Connector Type 1-4 Per Face
There has been a new value option ‘Conn. Name & Size & Type (3 Rows)’ added for Connector 1-4 on
the labels. This option will report the connector name, size, and type per face. This feature will make it
much more clear as to which connector type should be applied to each face. For example, it may not be
obvious which face of a transitions should get a Slip and which side should receive a Drive. This new
feature will make it obvious in each case.

New “Radiused” Saddle Flange Type
A new saddle flange type “Radiused” has been added to the database. There is now a new dropdown
under saddle “Saddle Flange Type”, which you must specify when creating saddles. You must choose
between the standard “Rectangular” flange type or the new “Radiused” flange type.

Print Label for Each Gore of Combined Face Modification
In V6.3.14 we implemented the Fabricate
Label property option “Print label for each
gore of combined face”, which will create a
separate label for each gore of a combined
face fitting. In V7.0 the gore on a face view of
the label will be highlighted to easily spot
which gore the label is referring to.
Specify Alignment Mark Quantity for Round Gored Elbows
The ability to specify the amount of alignment marks placed on round gore elbows has been
implemented. In the Fitting Settings there is the Mark Quantity parameter with the options 1 and 3.
The alignment marks that were on the inlet and outlet portion of the fitting in previous releases have also
been removed.

Square to Round and Round to Square Alignment Mark Options
A new option ‘Distance’ has been added to the Mark Quantity parameter for the Square to Round and
Round to Square fittings. If ‘Distance’ is selected, the program will add as many alignment marks as it
can fit between the quarter marks evenly spaced according to the value of the new Mark Quantity
Distance parameter. The spacing will be as close as possible to the Mark Quantity Distance value
without exceeding the Mark Quantity Distance value. The Mark Quantity values of 1, 3, and 5 will
work as they did in previous releases and only add 1, 3, or 5 alignment marks will be evenly spaced
between the quarter marks, in this case the program will ignore the Mark Quantity Distance value
entirely.

Tap Fitting Settings
Lock Mark, Alignment Mark,
and Hole Alignment Mark has
been added to all Round Taps
(with or without a saddle), Crosses
and Tees. The marks are placed on
the tap and on the hole, if a seam
falls on a mark location then the
mark will be omitted from the tap,
but not from the hole. Hole
Alignment Mark is used to set the
size of the marks placed on both
the tap and the tap hole.
Lock Mark, Roll Mark, and
Hole Alignment Mark has been
added to all Oval Taps (with or
without a saddle), Crosses and
Tees. The marks are placed on the
tap and on the hole, if a seam falls
on a mark location then the mark
will be omitted from the tap, but
not from the hole. Hole
Alignment Mark is used to set
the size of the marks placed on
both the tap and the tap hole.
Type Parameter Added to Duct Interior Specifications
In previous releases the Exterior portion of Rectangular, Round, and Oval Duct has a Type parameter in
the specification, but the Interior portion of the specification doesn’t. Type has been added to the
Interior portion of the Rectangular, Round, and Oval Duct specification, so the user can specify
different types for the Exterior and Interior shells. As mentioned above in 3.1.2 Estimating Integration
Improvements, the Interior Type will be part of the Rectangular, Round, and Oval Duct estimate XML
file, which can be controlled / overrode as needed.

4.2 Resolved Issues
Cloned / Imported Specification Interior Data Loss
The Interior dual wall settings in the specifications will
no longer be lost when a specification is cloned or
imported when DuctMaker or PartManager is
restarted.
Cloned Color Coded Labels
When you clone a color-coded label, and make changes
to the cloned label, the original labels information will no
longer be affected and it will remain the same.

Combined Face Fittings Torch Travel Optimization
Combined Face Fittings torch travel has been optimized.
When the combined face fittings such as Gored Elbow,
Offset, and Mitered Elbow have a Lock with male and
female values, the lock will have straight cuts that were
being cut as part of the boarder. The lock straights will
now be cut as part of the s curve instead to make the cuts
more efficient.
DuctMaker Job Export / Import Alias Issue
When you export / import a job, the Alias of all ducts
and duct fittings will now import with the correct Alias
name instead of the fitting name.118]
Estimating Integration Issues
The following issues related to Estimating export or
import have been corrected:
An issue with separate combined face fittings
nesting and reporting as one fitting has been
fixed.
Fittings that were imported from estimate were
overlapping once nested. This issue has been
fixed.
Existing Jobs Upgrade Alias Issue
Upgrading to V6.4 caused existing jobs to lose their
Alias names. In this version, you will no longer lose your
Alias names on existing jobs when upgrading. Any job
that had this issue when upgraded to V6.4 will have their
Alias names repopulated when upgrading to V6.5.
Label Issues
Three label issues have been corrected:
Spiral or Spiral Rib Label Duct will now
generate tickets, specifically so the double wall
information can be found.
Combined Face Fitting tickets will no longer lose
their data once DuctMaker is restarted.
Jobs that include parts and fittings will no longer
generate blank fabricate part labels if you’re
using a 3D View on the fabricate face label. Also,
Design to Fabrication V7.0 Release Notes DuctMaker
EastCoast CAD/CAM 26
you can now print your labels when the job
includes parts and fittings.
Liner on Endcaps
The program will no longer require you to have a length
value on the Endcap that is greater than the thickness of
the liner setup in the liner allowances. You will now be
able to have a 0” length Endcap with any thickness of
liner.
Manual Segmentation is Ignored
If you had a Segmentation Table setup for a fitting and
tried to add manual segmentations, it would ignore the
manual segmentations and burn it with the segmentation
table setup segments. It will no longer ignore the manual
segments even if you have the Segmentation Table
setup or not.2187]
Parker Fitting Critical Error Issue
Rectangular Box Issues
The Parker Fitting will no longer generate a critical error
when you switch the Heel 1 Seam to a lock that has a
lock cutback.
Two items have been corrected:
The Rectangular Box will now nest correctly
when it is imported into DuctMaker via estimate
XML file.
The Rectangular Box will now accept a height of
0 inches, so that you can create a flat plate if
desired.
Rectangular Wye Issue
Certain sets of values will no longer cause one of the
seams to disappear on the top cheek and bottom cheek of
the Rectangular Wye. Straight values are no longer
required to get the missing seam to reappear.
Report Issues Five report issues have been corrected.
Round and Oval Spiral Rib Duct will now report
its type as “Spiral Rib” on reports to match the
type report filter value.
The piece number column has been removed
from the Spiral Weight Report, because piece
number wouldn’t always report. In some cases,
ducts with different piece numbers that were
similar would be included in the same row, and
since they had different piece numbers the piece
number column would be left blank.
The Alias on the exterior of the coupling will
now always match the Alias on the interior of the
coupling when using the Fittings Sheer Report.
Design to Fabrication V7.0 Release Notes DuctMaker
EastCoast CAD/CAM 27
You will no longer lose your report filters once
DuctMaker is restarted when you uncheck /
check the report, change the display name in the
properties, and or change the name of the report.
The Tie Rod Report will no longer disappear
when certain fittings are part of your job.
Example fittings would be the Rectangular Cap
or Oval Tee, Bullhead.
Round and Oval Duct Status Modify
The Status and Liner Status of a Round or Oval
Longitudinal Duct now can be modified and switched
between Fabricate, Label, Purchased, and Deleted.
Specification Import Issues
The following issues related to importing specifications
into DuctMaker has been resolved:
When importing a specification into DuctMaker
the connector reinforcement and intermediate
reinforcement wouldn’t import with the correct
values for any folder, rule, or sub-rule. The
specification will now import with the correct
values for connector reinforcement and
intermediate reinforcement for any folder, rule,
or sub-rule.
If you had a specification with Round and Oval
checked off in the specification option filters for
example, the specification would import with
those shapes checked back on. Specification
Option shape filters will now import correctly.
Tees and Crosses Double Wall Explode
The Double Wall Explode for tees and crosses will now
always display and update correctly when the fittings are
modified.
Undersize Table All values input, edited, labeled, and reported on will
display as the nominal values. Fittings will be
programmatically shrunk at the inlets and outlets
according to the values entered in the Equivalence
Tables before the fitting explode is generated. Fittings
set values will also be adjusted accordingly to keep the
centerlines in tact according to their nominal values.

4.3 Known Issues
CenterLineInput = FALSE
CenterLineInput in the Shop Policies is currently not working as expected when it is set to TRUE. We
have set the CenterLineInput in the database to FALSE and recommend the user to set CenterLineInput
to FALSE until it is fixed in a future release.
Duct Dimension Rule for Taps on Existing Specifications
We have removed the Duct Dimension rule from the taps portion of the specification, but some users
may already have a specification setup that has taps using the Duct Dimension rule. For more
information regarding the Duct Dimension change in this release refer to “Duct Dimension Inlet and
Duct Dimension Outlets Specification Rules” in the release notes. The existing Duct Dimension rules
for taps will still work as expected, but we recommend deleting these rules and creating new rules that
use the new specification rule Duct Dimension Outlets.
DuctMaker HASP License Management Shortcut
The HASP License Management shortcut is not listed under DuctMaker from the Start Button\All
Programs\EastCoast\DuctMaker. It is listed under PartManager, but if you don’t have PartManager you
can access the HASP License Management from C:\ProgramFiles\EastCoast\Common\Tools\hasprus.exe
Specification Export
If a specification has shapes turned off in the Specification Options and was exported using an earlier
version than version 7.0.2, the specification will import into DuctMaker ignoring your Specification
Options and all 3 shapes rectangular, round, and oval will be turned on. The Specification Options will
need to be manually modified.
