1 Basic Documentation for High Tech / Industrial Machinery & Components
1 Software Components for Installation
PurposeThis document is intended for SAP Channel Partners and consultants who are involved in a Best Practices for High Tech or Best Practices for Industrial Machinery & Components installation.
This document is intended for consultants and system administrators who already have a sound knowledge of SAP Best Practices, including the tools and documentation. If you are not familiar with these, refer first to the document Essential Information.
The information in this document is a supplement to the Essential Documentation Building Block and provides you with additional information relevant for the Best Practices for High Tech/Industrial Machinery & Components setup before you start with the installation of the layer 0 and layer 1 building blocks and High Tech/Industrial Machinery & Components building blocks and scenarios.
This document is relevant throughout the complete installation. In particular the activities in section 3 contain essential information for installing High Tech / Industrial Machinery & Components scenarios. You must consider this documentation to avoid errors during the installation of some scenarios.
1.1 Installing Best Practices for High Tech / Industrial Machinery & Components
The installation of Best Practices for High Tech / Industrial Machinery & Components comprises three stages:
1. Installation of Baseline Package building blocks on SAP R/3 Enterprise or SAP R/3 Enterprise with DIMP 471 Add-On.
2. Installation of High Tech / Industrial Machinery & Components building blocks and scenarios on SAP R/3 Enterprise or SAP R/3 Enterprise with DIMP 471 Add-On. The following optional components can be integrated in these scenarios:
cFolders (part of mySAP PLM)
Additionally you have to install Automotive building blocks, depending on the prerequisites of some scenarios.
3. Installation of High Tech / Industrial Machinery & Components scenarios based on

2 Technical Prerequisites for Installation
2.1 Release and Support Package LevelThe deliverables of SAP Best Practices were developed and tested in a system landscape with specific support package levels. If the support package levels in your system are different, errors could occur during installation. You may be able to perform the installation activities manually using the configuration guides, but errors may occur nevertheless.
The development of Best Practices – High Tech / Industrial Machinery & Components was based on SAP R/3 Enterprise with the DIMP 471 add-on. However, it can be also be installed in SAP R/3 without the DIMP add-on. The following activities therefore differentiate between a DIMP installation and an installation with SAP R/3 Enterprise only.
2.1.1 Release and Support Package Level for a DIMP System Landscape
The software components and support package levels required for the installation of Best Practices for High Tech / Industrial Machinery & Components based on SAP R/3 Enterprise with DIMP 471 add-on are as follows:

3 Installation
3.1 PreparationBefore you begin to install the High Tech / Industrial Machinery & Components scenarios, you should decide how many scenarios you want installed. Bases on this decision, you can determine which building blocks you need using the list above. You can also determine the sequence in which you should install the building blocks.
3.2 Roles
3.2.1 Differences in DIMP and Standard SAP R/3 SystemIn some cases, the installation activities or BPP steps differ depending on whether you are working in a system with or without the DIMP Add-on. This is reflected in the installation and/or evaluation role. In such a case, there are two activities in the role marked SAP R/3 or DIMP accordingly. Choose the activity relevant for your installation and ignore the irrelevant node.
3.2.2 Composite Installation RolesInstead of uploading the individual installation roles for each building block you can alternatively upload the composite installation role /SMB50/IMC_INST_ALL or /SMB50/HT_INST_ALL respectively, which contains the installation roles required for all the IMC / High Tech scenarios. You will find the composite installation roles in the risc folder on your documentation CD.
3.2.3 Composite User RolesInstead of uploading the individual user roles for each scenario you can alternatively upload the composite user role /SMB50/IMC_USER_ALL or /SMB50/HT_USER_ALL respectively, which contains the installation roles required for all the IMC / High Tech scenarios. You will find the composite user roles in the risc folder on your documentation CD.
3.3 Installation Sequence for High Tech / Industrial Machinery & Components
To install only certain scenarios, you first install all the mandatory layer 0 building blocks in the correct sequence (see table Layer 0 Building Blocks) using the individual building block installation roles.
Secondly, you install the layer 1 building blocks that are prerequisites (see table entitled Layer 1 Building Blocks).
Thirdly, you install the industry-generic building blocks that are prerequisites for High Tech and IM&C. (See table Industry-Generic Building Blocks).
Finally, you install the industry-specific building blocks that are prerequisites for High Tech and IM&C scenarios.
