The state of the art Side Scan Sonar made by Klein Marine System of
USA has been installed in our new modern survey launch for
bathymetric survey and side scanning of objects on the sea floor.
Paradip Port Trust is the first port amongst the major ports in the
country to have this equipment, said Capt. Paul N. Joseph while
briefing local media persons on 03.03.2017 at Officer's Club. During
a survey carried out by using the Side Scan Sonar near the wreck of
MV Black Rose, the first 2D images of the wreck was seen since the
vessel sank in 2009. From these images, it is found that (1) the position
of the sunken vessel is static and (2) no threat posed for shipping
movements. This will also help to check the position of the vessel at
regular intervals in order to ascertain if the vessel has shifted or not.
