GEEnergy
Product OverviewGE Energys D400* substation data manager is a secure,
substation-hardened gateway that collects metering, status,
event, and fault report data from serial or LAN basedIntelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs). The D400 summarizes data
from the IEDs and makes it available locally through a
Keyboard-Video-Mouse (KVM) port or locally/remotely through
a standard secure web browser (HTTPS). It supports serial
and/or LAN connections to SCADA masters. TCP/IP network
connections are supported over the built-in Ethernet and the
modem interface.
Benefits and Strengths Data concentration
Ease of use/configuration Embedded substation HMI and alarming
Non-operational data support
Support for NERC CIP compliance
Embedded security applications
Legacy protocol support
Expandable and upgradeable platform
Features Secure web server (128 bit encryption)
Secure access using SSH (Secure Shell)/SCP (Secure Copy)/HTTPS
Secure terminal server, gateway, and/or data concentrator using
Secure Sockets Layer or Transport Layer Security (SSL/TLS)
User configurable security levels/access
Support for remote user authentication
Built-in alarm Annunciator
Support for Network Time Protocol (NTP)
Supports multiple SCADA protocols for communications
to multiple masters
Built-in basic math/logic functions
Event notification (e-mail, pager)
Memory stick support for historical logs
Internal SQL database
Dual hot swappable power supplies
Secure Substation HMI/AnnunciatorThe D400 supports a web based HMI/Annunciator feature, that is
accessible using a standard Internet browser or through a VGAmonitor and USB keyboard/mouse attached directly to the unit.
Non-operational DataUsing pass-through connections, the utility user can extract
valuable non-operational data such as digital fault recording (DFR)
records and event files. The user can also access the historical log
files and upload the archived data for trending and analysis.
Hardware OverviewThe D400 is built on a flexible, high performance, expandable
diskless and fanless platform that is powered by a 650 MHzprocessor. The D400 supports various communication media
typesSerial: RS-232, RS-485, Glass Fiber, and Plastic Fiber; and
Ethernet: 10/100Base-T, 10Base-FL, and 100Base-SX. Two
Ethernet networks are supported with separate multiport switches.
An IRIG-B format time protocol input/distribution module is also
supported. Serial port media is selected for each pair of ports.

Data ConcentrationThe D400 Substation Data Manager, when operating as a SCADA
host, collects, filters and sorts data from a wide range of IEDsin the substation (RTUs, protection relays, meters). Data can be
presented to multiple SCADA hosts.
Time Sync SupportThe D400 has extensive support for various time sync method-
ologies and will accept time sync signals from SNTP/NTP Servers,
IRIG-B (un-modulated/modulated), and SCADA protocols. The
D400 can also distribute this time sync information through its
built-in NTP Server, IRIG-B distribution interface, SCADA protocols,
and/or through the RS232 ports directly (SEL compatibility).
Pass-through/Terminal ServerA built-in terminal server emulator allows pass-through connections
to be initiated to any substation IED (relay, meter, RTU or other
device). Once the connection is established, the local event
records can be uploaded from the substation devices and viewed
remotely. These connections can be secured using the D400s
built-in TLS/SSL secure protocols.

Embedded ProtocolsThe D400 comes with a built-in suite of protocols and security
applications to facilitate communication with various substationIEDs and SCADA hosts#.
