First Round Sew a fabric #1 square to each

side of the center square. This is the center row.

Second Round – First Half• Sew a fabric #2 square to

the right side of fabric #1 square (right fabric sides together).

• Make 2 units. • Chain piece between the

units and leave the thread uncut.

• Chain on the spacer.• Leave the space under

the sewing foot.• Cut threads between the

spacer and the row.

Second Round – Second Half From the spacer, sew a

fabric #2 square down the side of each of the rows.

Second Round – Second Half Sew on to the spacer. Leave the spacer under

the sewing foot. Cut the threads between

the spacer and center row.

Third Round – First Half• From the spacer, sew a

fabric #3 square to the right side of fabric #2 square.

• Make 2 units.

Third Round – First Half• Sew a fabric #3 square to

the side of the previous rows.

• Sew to the spacer. • Cut the thread between

the spacer and the row.• Leave spacer under the

sewing foot.

Third Round – Second Half• From the spacer, sew a

fabric #3 square down the side of each of the rows.

Third Round – Second Half• Chain on to the spacer. • Cut the thread between

the spacer and the row.• Leave the spacer under

the sewing foot. • You are ready to start the

next row. • Sew the remaining rows

in the same way.

Complete All Rows• You will have a

tree like unit with the rows held together by a chain of thread.

• The center row will have 49 squares.

• You will have 2 squares of fabric #1 left over that will be used for the last 2 rows.

Cut Apart the Rows• Cut apart the

center row and the next two rows.

Sew the Rows together

• Sew the shorter two rows to each side of the center row.

• Cut apart the next two rows.• Sew them to each side of the previous unit

• Continue in this manner until all of the rows have been sewn together.

Sew remaining squares

• Sew the remaining 2 squares to each of the two corners.

Trim the quilt top • Trim off all of

the points leaving a 3/8” seam allowance.

Add borders• Lay 2 of the

borders in the middle of the quilt top.

• Trim to the width.

• Sew on borders.• Repeat with the

other 2 borders.
