DuringthemonthofOc-tober,27mayorsthroughouttheStateofIdahopartici-patedintheMayor’sSchoolWalkingChallenge.Joiningthemwereover25,000stu-dentsfrom60schools.To-gether,theywalkednearly180,000milesintheireffort

toencouragehealthyeatingandphysicalactivity. Asareward,eightschoolaroundthestateofIdahowere the recipients of a$2000awardfromthe2015WALKtoberwalkingcom-petition,includingDietrichElementary which log inover3200miles. This year’s championMayorwasGordonPetrieofEmmett,Idaho,whowalked534milesandearned$5,000tospendtowardsschoolorparkimprovementswithinthehiscity.TwelveotherIdaho mayors, includingScottMarolffromFairfieldand Dave Wendell fromShoshone,achievedanav-erageofmorethan10,000stepsperdaytowin$1,000fortheircommunities.

HighFiveChildren’sHealthCollaborative, Idaho DairyCouncil,andSt.Luke’s,areproudsponsorsoftheMayor’sSchoolWalkingChallenge,andthanktheparticipatingmayorsforhelpinginspireourchildrentowalk,run,andbeactiveinschoolandout.

Mayor’s School Walking Challenge

Beginning this Friday,November 20, ChristmasTreepermitswillbeavail-ablethroughouttheSaw-toothNationalForest.Thecostforthisyear’spermitis$10whichenablesafamilytochooseandcutatreeupto20feet-limitofonetreeperfamilyororganization. Dependingonthespecificareawherepeoplechoosetocuttheirtrees,avarietyoftrees are available. Theseinclude lodgepole pine,subalpine fir, Douglas-firandpinyonpine.ThereareafewareasthatareofflimitsforcuttingChristmastrees.Theseincludecampgrounds,administrativesites,skiar-eas,summerhomesitesandorganizationcamps. The Forest Service (notvendors)willofferonefreeChristmastreecuttingper-mittofourthgraderswhopresent a valid Every KidinaParkpass.OfficesthatdonotissueChristmastreepermitsorwhohavealreadyissuedtheirallottednumberofpermitsareexemptfromthisprogram.
