CONVEYINGDense phase conveying

SOLUTIONSJ-Tec designs, supplies, installs and

maintains systems for handling

dry substances and liquids. We

supply everything from inidividual

components to complete turnkey

installations. Our main fields

of activity are the food industry,

chemicals, petrochemicals, plastics

and pharmaceuticals.

To better serve our customers, we

continually invest in state-of-the-art

facilities, equipment and ICT systems

worldwide. However, it is thanks to

the initiative, enthusiasm and skills

of our people that we are able to

offer a better, more efficient and

cost-effective total concept to our

customers.

Pneumatic conveyingPneumatic conveying is a means of con-

veying dry powders and other solids in an

enclosed system using air pressure as the

means of conveyance.

Dense phase conveyingTwo variations of pneumatic conveying are

dilute phase and dense phase conveying.

Dilute phase conveying is characterized by

a high volume of air, lower air pressure and

low volume of solids per unit air volume while

dense phase is characterized by lower air

volumes and higher pressures and high vol-

umes of solids per unit air volume.

Dense phase conveying takes place at rela-

tively lower velocities and higher mass load

ratios compared to the dilute phase.

ApplicationDense phase conveying will typically be

chosen for:

• abrasive and sensitive products

• powders and pellets

• higher capacities

• long distance conveying (overpressure

dense phase)

We can make a distinction between vacu-

um dense phase and overpressure dense

phase.

Advantages

• avoidance of product damage

• avoidance of segregation of mixtures

• reduction of the wear of the complete

systems when conveying abrasive

products

• Higher conveying capacities due to typi-

cally high mass loading

Vacuum dense phaseVacuum dense phase systems are par-

ticularly suitable for systems, which convey

materials at high capacities over short to

medium distances (up to 100 m), from mul-

tiple sources to a single destination. Using

vacuum pumps, moving plugs of material

are formed and conveyed at sub-atmos-

pheric pressures.

Overpressure dense phase

In an overpressure dense phase system

the working pressure of the conveying air

is 2 bar or higher. The conveying air will

either be delivered by a compressor or

supplied by the distribution pressure net-

work at approximately 6 bar.

Depending on the technique and the

components used, we distinguish the

following variaties of overpressure dense

phase pneumatic conveying

A Continuous dense phase overpres-A Continuous dense phase overpres-A

sure conveying with rotary valve

B Discontinuous overpressure convey-

ing with 1 (or 2) pressure vessel(s)

In both continuous and discontinuous

conveying systems we distnguish:

1 Unit for compressed air supply

2 Air regulating unit

3 Product feed into conveying tube by

rotary valve or by pressure vessel

Options Tandem pressure vessels:

For continuous feeding of the

reception vessel and much higher

capacities, a continuous conveying

system will be selected by means of

a pressure vessel. In this case the two

vessels alternatingly send product into

the conveying system.
