Conservation Corps
The Youth Conservation Corps
Every summer NorthWoods Stewardship Center partners
with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service to hire local youth who
work at National Wildlife Refuges (NWR) across New
England. The Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) complete
important conservation projects and gain hands-on
employment experience. Each crew is made up of 4-6 crew
members (ages 14-18) and 2 crew leaders (ages 19+).
The Experience
YCC Crews work on a variety of projects at the refuge
including trail work, invasive species removal, improving
wildlife habitat, water quality testing, and working with
wildlife. They work 40 hours per week, Mon-Fri, 8 AM-
4:30 PM, with evenings and weekends off.
Wages
Crew Leaders earn $12.50-$13.75 per hour, depending
on position, experience, and crew.
Crew Members earn $10.50-$11 per hour.
Employment Season
Crew Leaders: June 17-August 2, 2019
During the week of June 17-21, crew leaders will attend a
training week held at NorthWoods Stewardship Center in
East Charleston, VT where they will become First Aid certi-
fied and gain hands-on leadership experience before re-
turning to their local refuge.
Crew Members: June 24-August 2, 2019
Crew members will begin work at their local refuge on
June 24 and receive hands-on training throughout the
season, valuable employment skills, and a first-hand un-
derstanding of conservation.
Save the date! Final Corps Celebration
On Friday, August 2, crews from all over New England
come together at NorthWoods to share the work they
completed over the summer and have a potluck lunch.
