The Youth Conservation Corps

Every summer NorthWoods Stewardship Center partners

with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service to hire local youth who

work at National Wildlife Refuges (NWR) across New

England. The Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) complete

important conservation projects and gain hands-on

employment experience. Each crew is made up of 4-6 crew

members (ages 14-18) and 2 crew leaders (ages 19+).

The Experience

YCC Crews work on a variety of projects at the refuge

including trail work, invasive species removal, improving

wildlife habitat, water quality testing, and working with

wildlife. They work 40 hours per week, Mon-Fri, 8 AM-

4:30 PM, with evenings and weekends off.

Wages

Crew Leaders earn $12.50-$13.75 per hour, depending

on position, experience, and crew.

Crew Members earn $10.50-$11 per hour.

Employment Season

Crew Leaders: June 17-August 2, 2019

During the week of June 17-21, crew leaders will attend a

training week held at NorthWoods Stewardship Center in

East Charleston, VT where they will become First Aid certi-

fied and gain hands-on leadership experience before re-

turning to their local refuge.

Crew Members: June 24-August 2, 2019

Crew members will begin work at their local refuge on

June 24 and receive hands-on training throughout the

season, valuable employment skills, and a first-hand un-

derstanding of conservation.

Save the date! Final Corps Celebration

On Friday, August 2, crews from all over New England

come together at NorthWoods to share the work they

completed over the summer and have a potluck lunch.

Family members are welcome to attend!
