_ They are the various kinds of colors used by different people
_ The use of mediums varies according to tastes, places, requirement, etc.
PENCIL Colors
_ Pencil colors are oil as well as water based
_ This is the most common medium among children
_ They give a soft feel on any paper
_ Though not an artistic medium, it is used by many people as a hobby
Pastel Colors
_ Pastels or crayons are oil based colors
_ They are made up of powdered pigment & inert binder i.e. gums
_ Oil & Soft pastels are the two most common types
_ This medium is used for teaching drawingto small children
_ They can be merged easily

_ It is mostly used on Handmade papers
_ It is applied in washes can also be layered after the first layer dries up
_ Water colors are available in tubes as well as cake (pan) form
_ This medium gives great results for landscapes
Poster Colors
_ Poster colors are known to be opaque mediums
_ They can be layered one above other
_ It is a common medium among Secondary & higher Secondary students
_ It is water based & contains water soluble gums that prevent drying of colors
Acrylic Colors
_ Acrylic resembles the characteristics of water as well as poster colors
_ It can be diluted with water & becomes water resistant after drying
_ It has its own characteristics that cannot be resulted through other media
_ It dries fast
Oil Colors
_ They are made up of color pigments in oil
_ Linseed, Walnut, Safflower, Turpentine or Spirit are the oils used with oil colors
_ Oil paints are applied with the help of brushes as well as Knives
_ Oil colors dry by oxidation & it takes time duration for them to dry up

_ Oil colors can be applied on canvas, oil papers, linoleum, wooden panel, slate, pressed wood, cardboard, etc.
_ Initially, the canvas is stretched over a wooden frame or stapled across the edge
_ Oil colors are mostly found in tubes
