55th Anniversary
Dear Parishioners, Why are we changing our
Sunday 11:30am Mass to 11:00am?
One half hour earlier will help families to come to Mass which is central to our faith life. They will be able to more easily attend family
functions, sports events and recreation.

Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Gn 3:9-15; Ps 130:1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8; 2 Cor 4:13—5:1; Mk 3:20-35
For I am already being
poured out like a libation...I
have kept the faith.
2 Timothy 4:6-7
I have a vintage French Holy
Card of the Immaculate
Heart of Mary. It pictures a
fleshy, realistic heart pierced
by multiple swords, an
expression of Simeon’s
prophecy over the young
mother of the infant Christ:
“and you yourself a sword
will pierce” (Luke 2:35). The
image seems to imply that
the swords will not just
wound but will remain.
They’ll never be extracted.
And yet Mary’s heart
overflows not just with
blood, but with flowers.
When we hear today that
Mary “kept all these things in
her heart” (Luke 2:51), I
think of those swords, the
prophecies she didn’t yet
fully understand, the pain she
had yet to face. But my hope
is this: When we have known
and survived much pain, we
need no longer answer to
fear. We might, instead of
cowering, pour ourselves out
in response to the pain of
others, calling on a God who
answers death with life. The
swords in our heart can be
signs of strength, not defeat.

“But He said to them in reply, “Who are my mother and [my]
brothers? Whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister
and mother.” Mark 3:33, 35
Throughout scripture, we are taught that everyone is our brother and
sister. We are called to treat everyone as our family; to love, share,
and protect. Yet we sometimes treat others as outsiders. Let us extent
an invitation to those outsiders to join our family!

Marriage Moment
“Love does not consist in gazing at each other but in looking
outward together in the same direction.” (Antoine De Saint-
Exupery) The little prince knew something of marriage. Look out
over your life and see beyond the crabgrass. What is your most
cherished common goal?
Parenting Pointer
“For whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and
mother.” (Mk 3:35) Family matters, but perhaps our definition of
“Family” is too small. Try to identity someone outside of your
immediate family who did the will of God this past week. Tell
them you noticed.
