Co-production in research

Kate PahlRESS

Co-production• Co-production can add value to what

you are trying to achieve• The process brings different things and

surfaces different sorts of knowledge• Co-production is a process rather than a

thing• There are different kinds of relationships

within co-produced projects • Roles can collapse or stay separate

Co-produced knowledge is not about finding consensus - it recognises the vast potential that lies beneath the surface of things.Rather than cultivating fruit, it identifies and promotes the conditions for growth. It acknowledges that these conditions may not produce edible field mushrooms yet values its products for what they are, presenting us with some of the most interesting and beautiful things in the world. (Steve Pool 2012)

• It starts when it starts and finishes when it finishes

•  Meaning is negotiated• Conflict can be generative • Stuff comes from stuff• Be playful –improvise• Craft your practice• Feel your way• Trust in the process (Steve Pool, Manifesto
