About the Organisation
Forth Valley Rape Crisis is proud to be a values driven, feminist organisation and feminism, human rights and equalities underpin all of the work we do. Our organisation is women-led and we recognise that sexual violence is a gendered crime with the majority of survivors being women and children and the majority of perpetrators being men.Sexual violence is both a cause and a consequence of inequality amongst genders. It occurs as a result of harmful ideas about gender which influence all parts of society, from personal relationships to institutional responses. We live in a society where dominant ideas about gender, and how it should be performed, limit the freedom and rights of women, children, young people and LGBTQ+ people and perpetuate negative stereotypes of masculinity for men to live up to. Forth Valley Rape Crisis provides free and confidential information, advocacy and support to anyone, over 13, in the Forth Valley area (Clackmannanshire, Falkirk and Stirling) affected by sexual violence. As a developing service we are ambitious about the potential for the many services that we could develop in partnership across the locality to best meet the needs of survivors- such as group work programmes for survivors and their family, friends and partners. The core work of the centre, however, is to provide one to one support to survivors to support them to recover and heal from the trauma of sexual violence. We are a partner in the National Advocacy Project coordinated by RCS. Our Support and Advocacy Worker provides advocacy and emotional support to survivors who are reporting, or considering reporting, to the police with this process or with on-going criminal justice proceeding such as giving evidence or attending court. We are also a partner in the national Rape Crisis prevention programme and deliver prevention work with children and young people across the Forth Valley area.
About the Project This post is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund for 3 years. This is a new post for the organization. The worker will work one
