LAST DAY OF THIS TERM
TOMORROW, FRIDAY 1 JULY, 2016
FIRST DAY OF NEXT TERM
TUESDAY 19 JULY, 2016
Mr Matthew Royan
School Principal
The PaTCH program has been specifically developed to enable parents and carers as volunteers within a school, to support students in their classrooms with their daily learning. The course provides volunteers with a deeper understanding of Literacy, how speaking, reading and writing are connected and how the stepping stones of learning follow on one from the other. Discussions around numeracy and its importance in everyday situa-tions help volunteers understand why the language of mathematics is so important for early learners. The graduation for our 2016 PaTCH participants will be held on Wednesday 20 July at 9:30am in the Old Hall. Mr David Willard our Director of Public Schools will be in attendance.
APEEL (A PARTNERSHIP ENCOURAGING EFFECTIVE LEARNING) Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 students will be partici-pating in a social skills program as part of the Personal Development Health and PE (PDHPE) curriculum. An invitation will be extended to parents and carers to attend a series of four workshops where topics such as communicating with your child, strategies encouraging responsible behaviour for your child and setting limits. These areas correspond with the social skills program the students will be covering in their classrooms. I look forward to your involvement in this program.

YEAR 6 STUDENTS WENT TO UNI
Last Friday, Year 6 students travelled to Newcastle Uni-
versity with Mr Muller, Mr McCleary and Mrs Muir and
parent/carers of some of the students, to see what
“uni life” is all about.
We all had a great day which started with a very excited
bus trip down. We had a very busy day visiting many
different aspects of the university.
Some of the places we visited were the “Lecture Thea-
tre” where we met with some university leaders and
they spoke about what they were studying. ‘Brain Illu-
sions” was another activity we did where we looked at
pictures and through movement they seemed distorted
but created different illusions. We also learnt some as-
pects of how our bodies work with a visit to the
“Physiotherapy Room”.
Jayden was very excited with the uni excursion com-
menting “The uni is like its own city. It has it’s own
postcode, bank, café, lolly shop, restaurant, hospital,
shopping mall and lots more.
Jasmyn said “It was a very busy place and seemed to
have everything you would need”.
The trip home was also fun, stopping at McDonalds and
having a chance to chat with our friends about our day.

(pictured above is the LaST team of (L to R) Beth Pres-land, Kim East, Alison Clifton, Kristy Hay and Annette Gleeson)
Alison Clifton – Instructional Leader “I see my role as a link between the classroom and the learning and support team. Knowing our students' needs enables me to support the classroom teachers' as they plan forward for their students”.
Beth Presland – Learning and Support teacher “I see my role as an advocate for students who have learning differences in accessing the curriculum. I link teachers with programs and outside agencies as a fur-ther support for our students with a particular focus in literacy”.
Annette Gleeson – Learning and Support Teacher “I am working this year to complement and support the existing team members. I look at how we support our students, teachers and families, and help the team to do things better”.
Kim East – Primary Curriculum Leader “My role in the LST is to provide guidance and support for teachers when applying curriculum and syllabus out-comes to meet the learning needs of our students”.
Kristy Hay – Learning and Support Teacher “My role in the LST is to liaise with staff, students and the wider school community in supporting the behav-iour and well-being needs of our students”.
Gayle Bowman - Learning and Support Teacher “My role is to support reading in Stage 2 with Reading Recovery and in class reading groups. I work collabora-tively with Miss Tyrie in the Reading Recovery Program and encourage students to do their home readers on a daily basis. It’s most rewarding to have students ask if they can come and read with me.

INFANTS NOVELTY DAY
On Friday 17 June, 2016, the infants held their Novelty
Day. There were smiles all round as students ran,
skipped, jumped, tossed and threw in a variety of
events such as sack races, chicken relays, the egg and
spoon race, tunnel ball (pictured below) , beanbag toss-
ing and the game rob the nest.
Pictured above are students participating in the relay
race and below are some very clever students doing a
great balancing act in the egg and spoon race.
LET’S TACKLE HEADLICE OVER THE HOLIDAYS
There has been evidence of head lice at our school. We
ask that all parent/carers please make the most of the
time over the school holidays to check their child’s hair.
If there is evidence of head lice please treat appropri-
ately. Your local pharmacy will be able to assist you
with the correct treatment.
LABELLING OF ITEMS We urge all parents/caregivers to please label all of their children’s clothing and other items brought to school. Our lost property continues to have items such as hats, jumpers and lunch boxes handed in without a name. If the items are labelled, this then allows the school to return the lost items to their rightful owner.
