CHALLENGE EMPOWERMENT RESPECT RESILIENCE
NEWSLETTER NO. 28 MONDAY 9TH SEPTEMBER 2019
DEAR FAMILIES, STUDENTS AND STAFF,
Last week was highlighted by three significant events which showcased our students. 62 of our students competed
at Southern Ranges Athletics. For the second year in a row Euroa Secondary College were again the overall winners
at Southern Ranges Athletics with 41 of our students progressing to Hume Region.
I want to congratulate Eliza Hoare who on Wednesday 4th September was the recipient of
the Australian Olympic Committee Change Maker Program, formerly known as the Pierre
De Coubertin award. The Change Maker program recognises a student for their sporting
achievements across a number of sporting fields. This is a well-deserved award for Eliza
who have been actively involved over the years in a variety of Olympic sports such as
Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country, where she has competed at state level in each of
these sports.

We also assisted with the efforts of Legacy Week, where six of our Year 9 students, Kendra Miller, Jazy
Raleigh, Nick Russell, Peter Bateman, Tegan Kubeil and Ashleigh Fraser helped staff the Legacy Stand
at Burtons last Friday. I wish to acknowledge the community mindedness of the six students who despite
the adverse weather, enthusiastically helped in selling Legacy badges and other products, so that Legacy
can continue to support our veterans as well as their families.
On Saturday, we had our Presentation Ball where 23 couples in Years 10 and 11 graced us with their six
dances. It was a very positive evening and wonderful to see the coming together of our community, where
our couples were supported by 377 family and friends. Each of the 23 couples were presented to the
Official Party, which included our College Captains Robert and Tess, School Council President Mrs Ruth
Nolan, our Acting Assistant Principal Mr Mat Long, our special guests: Ms Steph Ryan Member for Euroa,
Mrs Amanda McClaren Mayor of Strathbogie Shire and me.
It was a true delight to have attended such an amazing evening. I want to thank the Debutant Committee
for their support and especially recognise the immense effort, dedication and commitment of Mr Long in
ensuring the success of the Presentation Ball. Also, I cannot express enough my appreciation to Ms Lucy
Broughton for been our MC for the last three Presentation Balls. Furthermore I wish to thank Ms Steph
Ryan and Mrs Amanda McClaren for taking time out of their busy schedule to attend as well as their
continual extensive support of the college.
This week our Year 10 students will be out on Work Experience, where they get to develop a greater
understanding of the world of work, ideally in a field which they would like to pursue.
A reminder that next Thursday the 19th September 2019 will be our Semester 2 Family Interviews. Family
Interviews provide an opportunity for families to speak to individual teachers to receive feedback on their
child’s progress, achievements and areas of development. Please make bookings to see your child’s
teachers using the following link:
www.schoolinterviews.com.au with the event code: m3ns8
Also, as the temperature will start becoming warmer next term, I encourage all families to start planning
and ordering their child’s uniform needs for the summer months. As we are a Sun Smart school, it is also
a part of uniform all students have a broad brim hat in Term 4.
Please do not hesitate to contact me at the college if you have any inquiries or would like more information
on our upcoming Family Interviews.
Regards,
Harold Cheung
Principal
Family Parent Teacher Interviews
Thursday 19th September 4:20pm-7:20pm and Wednesday 9th October 4:20pm – 7:20pm To create a smoother and subsequently more informative opportunity for feedback/dialogue between classroom

followed by a quick change-over time to allow the next interview to start on time.
The earlier you book the more chance you have of getting times that best suit you.
To make your appointment please go to: www.schoolinterviews.com.au.
1. Log on to www.schoolinterviews.com.au with the event code: m3ns8
2. Enter your details: Email, Parents Full Name, Student Names, the number of students you are booking for, then

Year 12 English Update
As the end of year approaches there are a few key dates we would like our Year 12s to keep in mind.
Wednesday the 18th of September will be a full 3 hour trial exam to be held in exam conditions. This will be
onsite here at the College and we are encouraging all student to approach this as a dry run for the big day. Consider
hydration, stationary and dictionaries for this day. Students will have a chance to reflect on what is sure to be an
illuminating experience with their class teacher afterwards. This is a great activity that calms nerves but also makes
students aware of the work that is needed to be done.
Year 12 teachers often run classes in the holiday break. The English staff are offering the following sessions:
Ms McCluskey will be at the school on Tuesday the 24th 12.30- 2.00pm in B8
Ms Tough will be at the school on Monday the 30th 10.00am - 1.00pm in B8
Students from both classes are encouraged to attend one or both of these sessions.

English Domain Leader
School Bus
As per direction from PTV (Public Transport Victoria) the school bus service is not there
to provide transport to get to after-school jobs, social or sports training etc. Any bus
traveller who needs to make a “one off” request to change buses needs to give Mr. Bott or
Mr Cheung a note signed by a parent/guardian on the morning of the day of such a request.
Be mindful that the answer may have to be “no”.
Parents driving their students to school are reminded that students should be dropped off and picked up at the
Campbell Street entrance to the school, near the front gates. NO PARKING or entering the school car park
during bus times

Euro
Southern Ranges Athletics
On Tuesday 3rd September 62 students travelled to
Shepparton Athletics Centre to compete in the Southern
Ranges Athletics Carnival. Euroa had the largest team of
competitors for any of the schools competing in the Southern
Ranges. Having so many competitors representing the school
meant Euroa Secondary College were awarded the best school
in the Southern Ranges after the day of competition, finishing
with 760 points and the next best school being on 672 points.
All of the students should be very proud of their performances
and the contributions they have made to Euroa Secondary
College winning the Southern Rages Athletics.
There were some exceptional individual performances with
Robert Smith breaking the 16 Year Boys Triple Jump record
with a jump of 11.95m, Eliza Hoare breaking the 18-20 year
Girls 800m record with a time of 3:00.94 minutes and Amelia
Delahey broke the 12-13 Girls Long Jump Record with a jump
of 4.27m. The 12-13 Boys Relay team consisting of Ryan
Hill, Koby Kubeil, Mitchell Walters and Darby Wilson also
broke the record with a time of 55.12 seconds.
Congratulations to these students on these exception
performances.
The next level of Athletics, Hume Region, will be on Thursday October 10th at the Albury Athletics Centre. We
have a team of 41 students who have qualified to compete at this level. We wish them all the very best at the next
level of competition.
Thanks to Mr Schultz, Mr Kidgell, Ms Buchannan and Ms Clignett for taking the students to the Southern Ranges
Athletics.
