FR. JOHN PAUL’S SPIRITUAL BREW:
I t's has been a week since Easter Sunday! Last weekend our church was full, our voices raised in celebration, and many of our Lenten fasts completed. The brightness of the spring shown
everywhere from beauty our altar decorations to the energy with which we sang our Easter hymns! Today we move deeper into the joy of the Easter Season, as we hear another account of how persistent God's love is for us.... to us, and with us. The followers of Jesus are locked behind doors, minds, and hearts ... of real physical and emotional pain and fear! They could be next on the list to be taken, and they're not ready! Who would be! Especially, after witnessing the trauma of the arrest and execution of their leader and friend. Despite the high drama of this situation, and all its potential to be a dead end. Jesus walks right into the heart of the matter, and says... "Peace be with you, Do not be afraid, and Receive the Holy Spirit". He simply walks through the death that is surrounding them, and calls them back to life... And, keeps calling them! Despite Thomas' a absence the first time.... Jesus keeps calling him... even when Thomas doubts and grows cynical.., Jesus keeps calling him to see and embrace new life, real life...., and to touch and probe it! We are invited to do the same when we are filled with doubt and fear.... Come, he says to us.... "Take and eat and drink" This is my self, broken open and poured out for all of you! Now, Go! and do the same with your lives! We are honored today to have several members of our community who will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, in the Sacrament of Confirmation, at our 5pm Mass this afternoon. May their courage move us to allow God's Spirit to direct us in way that provides real benefit and blessings for all.
