- Note Names and Values There are three basic notes that you need
to know. They are

- The Whole Note The whole note is held for four steady beats.
When you start playing, count to four in your head. 1-2-3-4 Or, you
can say super long note. SU-PER-LONG-NOTE Practice clapping or
playing a whole note.

- The Half Note The half note is held for two steady beats. When
you start playing, count to two in your head. 1-2 Or, you can say
long note. LONG-NOTE Practice clapping or playing a half note.

- The Quarter Note The quarter note is held for one steady beat.
When you start playing, count to one in your head. 1 Or, you can
say short. SHORT Practice clapping or playing a quarter note.
