Blending LearningWhat is it?

So many definitions! Ministry of Education

“Blended learning uses the tools of the provincial learning

management system (LMS) to teach and support learning in a face-to-

face class. Through blended learning, K-12 students can access high-

quality course materials, course calendars, and assignments during

and outside school hours.”

Mohawk College

“Blended learning integrates both face-to-face learning and online

learning in the delivery of a course.

A blended course is designed to integrate face-to-face and online

activities so that they reinforce, elaborate on, and complement one

another, instead of treating the online component as an add-on or

duplicate of what is taught in the classroom.”

Dr. David Rosen & Dr. Carmine Stewart

“Blended learning, sometimes known as hybrid learning, is a teaching

and learning model that has a face-to-face class or tutorial component

combined with an online learning component.”

Rosen, D. & Stewart, C. (2015). Blended Learning for the Adult Education Classroom.

How Adult Educators use Blended Learning

● Experiment with easy to use websites or tablets and smartphone

apps.

● Ask students to view online instructional videos.

● Integrate a fully online instructional program with what they do in

class.

● Curate their own online repository of assignments, instruction,

practice, assessment and other learning resources.
