Cat Natural Instinct
Let's say you wake up in the middle of the night and fix yourself a snack in
the kitchen. You might realize your cat is awake and become concerned.
Actually, Cats are instinctually crepuscular. Long ago cats hunted at night toaoid predators. !er time, they trained themseles to be night owls capable of
detecting motion in minimal lighting.
!ftentimes a cat will rub her body on furniture, your leg, isitors, etc. "his
is because a cat is instinctually territorial. #he's simply marking her territory by
putting her scent on her surroundings. $n years past, cats would use their scent
to warn other cats to stay clear of their area.
#ome cat owners feel unneeded by their cats. You might try to play a
game with your cat and get the cold shoulder. "his too, is normal. %nlike dogs,
cats are independent and can easily entertain themseles for hours. As a catowner, it's important to understand this fact. You might think you're doing
something wrong and oercrowding her, but really, she's &ust doing what feels
instinctually correct, which is to be alone. $t all goes back to the hunting habits of
early cats. ore cats around means more scents, so cats hae grown
accustomed to riding solo.
(ae you eer seen your cat stalk its food) "o see your cute kitty walking
around like an assassin may be off*putting. +ut in fact, it's a behaior she
probably picked up from her mother. #ince cats aren't raised in packs like dogs
are, cats hae to learn eerything about surial before she leaes her mom, including hunting techniues like stalking.
