Welcome to the Museum's 2016 Odd Ball
It is our pleasure to welcome you to Odd Ball, an event that generates critical funding to support the Museum’s mission of providing hands-on learning experiences that help prepare children to become accomplished students and responsible adults. We are deeply grateful for your support.
As we celebrate more than 20 years as a leading educational resource in the community, we remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting local families that are struggling to raise a young child. Your participation in Odd Ball will enable the Museum to benefit more than 240,000 children and adults during the coming year, and help sustain Museum outreach initiatives that provide free parenting education, admission, membership, field trips and transportation assistance programs and events that benefit 80,000 participants annually, including families living in poverty, foster families, teen parents, at-risk fathers, and others whose circumstances often limit their use of resources that can develop a child’s skills and shape their lifelong values.
We want all of our community’s children to have experiences that will spark their interests and build their capacity to learn and grow. The Museum has embraced a national platform to improve science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) education by taking a leadership role – both locally and nationally – to promote the Maker Movement, a global community of inventors, entrepreneurs, educators, students, and do-it-yourselfers that are changing how we live, work and learn. The Museum offers a broad range of STEAM-based maker programs for families and students throughout the year, and we are proud to co-host the third-annual Maker Faire® Milwaukee, a family-friendly event that promotes education, and economic and workforce development. The Faire is the largest free event of its kind in our nation and reflects the Museum’s commitment to ensuring that all children in our community have the opportunity to develop the problem-solving, creative and conceptual skills they will need to be successful in school…and for a lifetime.
Thank you for attending Odd Ball. We hope that you enjoy tonight’s event, featuring a variety of sights, sounds and tastes that showcase the talent and innovation of local makers. Your contribution of much-needed resources to support the Museum’s educational mission and outreach initiatives is deeply appreciated and represents an important investment in the future of our families and our community.

A Message from the
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum’s 2016 Odd Ball.
On behalf of the Museum’s Board of Directors and staff, I want to extend my deepest thanks to our 2016 Odd Ball Co-Chairs, Erica and Erik Zipp, and this year’s outstanding Odd Ball Committee for their dedication to making the event a success, championing our work in the community, and involving friends in our mission! We also want to thank all of the event sponsors, donors and guests who have come together to support the Museum’s commitment to early education.
Making – learning by doing – is revolutionizing education at all levels, engaging students in the critical STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) subjects and encouraging them to develop the problem-solving, creative and conceptual skills they will need to be successful. Building on our educational mission and commitment to community outreach, the Museum's Maker Initiative has enabled us to work with schools, libraries and other organizations – locally and across the country – to develop makerspaces and maker education programs. The Initiative engages children, young people and families in programs and projects aimed at realizing the goal of "every child a Maker," a national call to action to improve student achievement and American innovation and entrepreneurship. Maker Faires around the world are described as the “Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth.” Now in its third year, Maker Faire® Milwaukee is hosted by the Museum in partnership with Milwaukee Makerspace. We invite you to attend this free, family-friendly festival that showcases new products and technology, as well as makers exhibiting work in a broad range of creative fields.
In addition to Museum outreach programs that ensure access to our educational resources by thousands of disadvantaged children and families each year, your participation in Odd Ball will help fund Museum exhibits, programs and services that benefit more than 240,000 children and adults annually. We are very grateful for your support. The Odd Ball Committee has created an incredible event and I am so very proud to be involved with it. Thank you for joining us. Enjoy your evening!

Contributions may be made through the BidPal system during the auction, or at auction check out. Each and every contribution is important to our work, and we are grateful for your generosity.
1001 Sponsor a Museum Membership for a Family in NeedNeed: $150,000 Each year, the Museum’s Family Focus program provides free parenting education, Museum membership and transportation assistance to more than 1,300 local families that are struggling to raise a young child, including families living in poverty, foster families, teen parents, at-risk fathers, families with a disabled child, families that do not speak English as a first language, and others whose circumstances often limit their access to educational resources, including maker experiences that can build a child’s STEAM-based academic skills, shape their values and positively influence their lifelong capacity to learn. Each gift of $130 will support the participation of one disadvantaged family for an entire year.
1002 Neighborhood Night Need: $87,000The Museum must raise $87,000 to support Neighborhood Night, an evening each month when we offer free admission and enrichment opportunities such as maker programs that build on science, technology engineering, arts and math skills, to meet the needs of low-income families in our community. Individuals and organizations may elect to sponsor one month for $3,500 or contribute another amount to help support this important outreach program.
1003 Back-to-School Resource Fair Need: $14,000The Museum’s annual Back-to-School Resource Fair distributes free backpacks and school supplies to needy families, and provides community and social service agencies with an important opportunity to offer information about school readiness, health and safety, literacy, after-school programs and more. The Fair benefits almost 2,000 children and adults each year.

The Betty Brinn Children’s Museum is dedicated to providing hands-on educational experiences that help children build fundamental skills during their formative years, and to helping adults recognize the positive influence of early learning on a child’s lifelong success. All of the Museum’s exhibits and programs are developed to promote school readiness, and are designed to reflect state and national academic standards as well as developmental milestones recognized by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. While all children benefit from early learning programs, research confirms that disadvantaged children stand to benefit the most; access to quality early learning experiences helps close the achievement gap and prepare young children for success in the classroom and beyond. The Museum provides free parenting education, family memberships, admission, field trips, events and transportation assistance to support children, families and community groups whose personal circumstances often limit their access to enrichment opportunities that can shape a young child’s life. The Museum’s commitment to early education represents an important investment in local families and – in the longer term – the growth of our community’s workforce and economy. The Museum is a private non-profit that does not receive operating support from the United Way, UPAF, or from city, county or state governments. Contributions are critical to helping us meet the educational needs of more than 240,000 children and adults annually, including many of our area’s most vulnerable children and families. On behalf of all who will benefit from your generosity, thank you for supporting the Museum’s 2016 Odd Ball.
