Background

1. A four-year hemispheric project funded by the OAS Special Multilateral Fund of the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (FEMCIDI), "Responses to the Challenge of Improving the Quality of Recruitment and Selection, Initial Formation, Professional Development and Evaluation of Teachers in Countries of the Hemisphere."

2. An international seminar on policies and practices in teacher education conducted in September 2006 by the OAS in collaboration with the Ministry of Education of Trinidad and Tobago, "New Approaches in Policy and Practice for Teacher Educators in the Americas."

3. The "Teacher Education for 21st-Century Teachers" seminar, held in Trinidad and Tobago in October 2008.

ITEN is a virtual network of professional leaders in

Education at all levels and modalities who are willing to

share knowledge, experiences, research and best practices in the field of teacher education.

Built as a horizontal cooperation strategy, ITEN offers a virtual space for interaction

for all stakeholders in the field of teacher education in the Americas.

ITEN Offers

Delivery of professional development for educators and administrators through online courses;

Virtual space and internet tools to foster effective communication among educators, school leaders and other educational stakeholders;

Technical assistance missions among countries to build capacity.  

500 surveys of stakeholders compiled and analyzed.

Different platforms were analyzed.

Market research on similar initiatives.

Total number of participants: 179

Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Uruguay, Dominican Republic, Perú, Ecuador, Honduras, México, Haití, Brazil and Paraguay.

It facilitates horizontal cooperation in education.

It is the only network that has a professional development section and an online community for Latin America and the Caribbean.
