Autumn Term Week 15 (Week A)

Good luck in the

House matches next

week!

Nearly there in

Week 16!

Wrapping up the

term in style!

Movie Madness on

a Monday!

On Thursday, 26th November, Brighton College

celebrated the U.A.E National Day. There were a

number of assemblies, events and activities for pupils,

staff and parents. Everybody had an amazing time, as

can be seen in the photographs.

As part of the National Day celebration, the Prep and Senior School

pupils collaborated on our own Brighton College flag. Pupils were

asked to design a ‘tile’ of what the U.A.E. means to them.

The final product is currently on display in our gallery and it looks

fabulous!

The ‘tiles’

The Year 4 pupils

have worked so hard

and perform with

the confidence and

passion of true

professionals, rising

to the challenge.

The Year 4 team

along with the

Music team have

done a truly

fantastic job!

Cinderella, as you have never seen her

before!

On Tuesday, the pupils in Year 6

entertained friends and family with a most

amusing, colourful and truly magical

interpretation of that well known fairy tale,

Cinderella. Interestingly, Cinders ended up

with a poor jam maker and took no

nonsense from the nasty not-so-charming

Prince in this version!

The school corridors have been

a-buzz with children humming

the tunes from the show and,

by popular demand, Pre-Prep

children also got to enjoy a

special matinee performance,

just for them.

Well done to all teachers and

children involved!

The Year 6 pupils have all worked hard

for this memorable production. Here

are some behind the scene photos.

Zoe Lindley-Smith,

Year 8 Jahili, has been

given a “Headmasters

Scholarship” to

Millfield. It is a Sports

boarding school in the

UK.

Well done Zoe and we

wish you all the best!

This week in Year 3 we have been learning

about the Jaipur Elephant Festival. This is a

festival which happens every year in India and

gets underway with a traditional procession of

decorated elephants.

The elephants proudly parade up and down,

like catwalk models, to an appreciative crowd.

In Year 3 we had a go at creating our own

designs for decorating elephants. We created

out own paisley patterns and experimented

with use a range of media such as oil pastels,

felt tip pens, chalk pastels and paints.

I think you will agree that our Elephants look

stunning!

By: Mrs Aly Wolstanholme

Head of Year 3

The children have also used

water colours to create

peacock eyes and as a year

group look at what we have

collaboratively created!

This is a collage in the

shape of a map of India

using lot's of pictures that

are symbolic to India.

In the collage you can see

the president, some

Bollywood dancers,

traditional food, the

Elephant Festival in Jaipur

and famous faces from

India.

The colours are warm and

bright and remind me of

India.

Year 3 – Maple, Hosn

Here is Year 4 Danube

dressed up as famous

movie stars to raise

money for ‘Red

Crescent’.

This week was extra special as the girls made it a clean sweep.

We are, as always, very proud of all of them!

They are (from left to right):

Inayat Sohal, Isabelle Farrell, Sophie Mason, Eeman

Khan and Darcy Quirk

These Year 4 Pupils worked very hard on

their handwriting and have earned their

pen licences.

Well done to all of them!

NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATIONS AT BRIGHTON COLLEGE

Sad to Say Goodbye!

The Bithna House and indeed the school

as a whole is very sad to say goodbye

to Olivia Nu and Xavier Sawaqed who are both in Year 7.

They have been great pupils to have in the House and they

will be sorely missed. We would like to wish them all the

best in their new adventures outside of Brighton College.

Xavier recently achieved a bronze medal in a Dubai sailing

competition which is excellent and we hope that he

continues to succeed in this sport. Good luck!

… Meet three new Year 7 Hosn pupils

This week…

This week Hosn, would like you to meet three of its newest

members, Maheen, Charlotte and Gyeong eun. The pupils share their

thoughts on how they have settled in, and how they are getting on in

a new school.

Hello everyone! My name is

Gyeong eun Noh Angella. I

am twelve years old and I’m

from South Korea.

I moved to Abu Dhabi six

months ago. I think I am

doing well at Brighton College;

my favourite subjects are

Maths, Art, Design and

Technology and P.E.

I love Brighton College all of

the teachers and pupils are so

kind.

Hello! I’m Maheen Javeed, I am

eleven years old and from Canada.

I love Brighton College because of

all of the amazing subjects like

Science, Maths and History. I love

all of the activities and sports here,

especially netball and rugby. I

would really like to start a

basketball team here, as I grew up

playing it. I’m happy to start my

new life but would like to establish

a basketball team at Brighton

College.

I’m glad to be fitting in just fine

with many trustworthy friends.

Hello everyone! My name is Charlotte

Norris and I am twelve years old and in

Year 7.

I have just started Brighton College and

have made lots of friends. I am from

England and I am also half Chinese. I

came to Abu Dhabi as my father got a

job here, and I came to Brighton

because it is one of the best in the city. I

am having a really good time here with

many friends, and I have settled in really

quickly. Although we have lots of prep, I

am enjoying my time in Hosn and in my

compass group. I do find most of the

school work challenging, however not

too hard and not too easy for me.

Furthermore, I think the majority of the

teachers are friendly, nice and

professional , with good respect.

This term at Brighton College, we have been

learning U11s touch rugby. It is fun and interesting;

we’ve learned how and when to pass, how to spot

space, spread out, move forward as a team and so

much more. The teachers are really supportive and

if you are struggling on something, they’ll always be

there for you. The teachers that have taught us are

Mr Knights, Ms White and Mr Macaulay. I am

positive that everyone on the teams had a really

great experience and we’d love to do it again! By: Addison Sharp, Y5 Hosn.

Pictures above includes Naser, Addison and Deen of Hosn who played on the

White Knights team.

Fujairah had a fantastic time

supporting Jahilil Movie

Madness Day. From Darth

Vader to Joy the children had

super time.

Finally, the children have

really benefitted from the

kind donations that you

have already made.

Thank you!

I hope that everyone enjoyed their National Day Holiday. It has

been another busy week. Congratulations to all the Fujairah

children who took part in Cinderella - what a super show! We are

now looking forward to the end of term concert next week.

There has also been sporting success for the girls Under 11

Football Team who won their tournament, well done!

Next week we are looking forward to taking part in House Match

finals, come on Fujairah!

Thank

you Mr

Evans!

Thank You, Goodbye and Good Luck!

Dear Parents,

As the end of term approaches, we are sad to say thank you and goodbye to

three Jahili Tutors: Fiona Palmer (7 Jahili), Stephen Donohue (6 Namib) and

Carolyn Etchells (8 Jahili).

As you will have read in Vanessa Robitaille’s recent letter, Fiona and Stephen

will both be leaving the UAE to follow exciting new opportunities around the

world, at the end of next week. Fortunately, Carolyn is not leaving the College,

however, she will be focusing on her role as Special Educational Needs Co-

ordinator from the start of the Spring term.

On behalf of the whole of Jahili, I would like to take the opportunity to

thank Fiona, Stephen and Carolyn for their enthusiasm and support over the

past term. The Jahili family won’t be the same without them and they will be

greatly missed!

As we approach 2016, we look forward to welcoming Dan Kirkwood (8

Jahili), Paul Gardner (7 Jahili) and Zahra Thandi (6 Namib) to the pride in

January.

If ever you have any questions or feedback, please do not hesitate to get touch

at: dfacey@brightoncollege.ae

Many thanks,

Week 16 (Week B) Autumn Term 2015

The end of term is here! It seems amazing that we have only one week left of this term, where has the time gone? The Prep School continues to be a busy and vibrant school with unique and special events happening all the time. This week has been no different, with the wonderful and colourful Jahili Movie day. Dress up days are always special here and it is always a delight to see the enthusiasm and effort that goes into such events. My thanks to the Jahili team, for all their work in making their day such a great one. Another highlight of the week was Year 6’s Cinderella – what a fabulous evening it was. The children sang so beautifully and the acting displayed a strong ability to convey emotions, with the audience really laughing and sympathising with the characters on stage.
