Welcome back to Term 3!
Attitudes to School and Parent Opinion Survey Attitudes to School Survey Results are completed by our students in levels 4, 5
and 6. This anonymous survey was completed online for the first time and
students were asked to respond to questions in relation to:
Effective Teaching Practice
Teacher-Student Relations
Learner Characteristics eg. Attitudes to school work
Social Engagement eg. Friendship
Student Safety
Experience of Bullying
During the first week of term the results were distributed and we are very proud
to announce that the results were extremely positive and they were our best
results since 2012. The data also breaks the results into levels and gender which
has provided us with an insight into particular groups we need to target. These
will be distributed at the next School Council meeting and will be published in the
next whole school newsletter.
Parent Opinion Survey
The Parent Opinion Survey is another data source used in our self-evaluation and
your feedback and opinions play an important role in making our school the best
it can possibly be.
The 2017 Parent Opinion Survey will be completed online from 7th to 27th
August.
The Parent Opinion Survey is an Annual Survey offered by the Department of
Education and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected
parents at each school.

It is designed to assist our school in gaining an understanding of parents' perception of school climate, student
engagement and relationships within our parent community. Our school will use the survey results to help
inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.
The survey will be conducted online by ORIMA Research Pty Ltd and only takes 15 minutes to complete. The
survey can be accessed via desktop computer, laptop, tablet or mobile at any convenient time within the
fieldwork period from Monday 7th August to Sunday 27th August.
Approximately 30 per cent of parents will be invited to participate in this year's survey. All responses to the
survey are anonymous. Parents who have been randomly selected and invited to participate will receive a
letter the week beginning Monday 31st July.
Together with other surveys undertaken by the Department, the Parent Opinion Survey reflects the Education
State target "Happy, Healthy and Resilient Kids". The refreshed survey builds on the framework established for
the new Student Attitudes to School Survey and is aligned with three of the key priority areas:
1. Excellence in teaching and learning
2. Positive climate for learning
3. Community Engagement in Learning
The Survey results will be reported back to our school at the end of September. The Survey results will be
communicated to parents through the annual reporting process.

Curriculum Report On Wednesday 19th July we were fortunate enough to
host a visit with Ingrid Lange who is a consultant from
a company called Solution Tree. Solution Tree is a
highly recognised organisation who provide schools
with Professional Learning around a wide variety of
topics, but a large portion of the work they do focuses
on the Professional Learning Community model which
Chelsea Heights Primary School began working within
in 2012.
Over the course of the day Ingrid was able to observe
students working in their classes, attend collaborative
planning sessions with teachers, participate in
discussions with the Core Leadership Team, and
attend a Professional Learning Team meeting with the
Junior School which is being led by Emily Neophitou in
Angelique Lowe’s absence.
Although Ingrid was here mostly to capture the
essence of a school that is truly working as a
Professional Learning Community and take her
findings back into her own work, we took the
opportunity to seek feedback based on her
observations. The big ideas of a Professional Learning
Community are: A Culture of Collaboration, A Focus
on Results and Ensuring that all Students Learn.
The key points that Ingrid noted were:
Chelsea Heights Primary School is 100% focused on
learning and this is evident everywhere you look,
from data walls to having examples of student
writing at all levels on display, from our mission
statement of ‘High Standards, High Expectations’
to students being able to refer to Learning
Intentions and what success looks like within a
lesson particularly in the Foundation area
Our students are happy, polite and engaged in their
learning
There is consistency in our approaches to teaching
and teachers have a very clear understanding of
what they are trying to help their students achieve
Assessment tasks and Proficiency Scales are
carefully designed to ensure we are able to pin
point the next steps in learning for each and every
student
Staff really know the students on both a wellbeing
and academic level. The Junior School Professional
learning Team meeting that Ingrid observed saw in
depth discussions based on a number of data
sources that was focused around teacher
accountability and performance. She was most
impressed with the way this meeting ran, and the
commitment to getting the best out of the students
that was demonstrated by the team.
It is a huge celebration to note how far our school has
come as a Professional Learning Community, and we
really value the feedback from Ingrid’s visit. We are on
a continual improvement journey, and stopping to
celebrate the great successes along the way is
certainly a pivotal and satisfying experience.

Ticketing and Co-ordination of the Production
Tickets are ONLY available via https://www.trybooking.com Search for Chelsea Heights.
Select Junior Production and purchase tickets for the:
Matinee on Tuesday the 29th August (12:00pm to approx. 1:30 pm) $7 all tickets or
Evening Performance on Wednesday the 30th August (6:30 pm to 8:00 pm) $10 adult/$7 child
How does it all work?
In order to accommodate all students in roles lasting long enough to showcase their learning, we have created a
‘roving style’ theatre performance. This means that the audience moves from one performance venue to the next
and the actors stay in the same place.
As our performance arenas are limited, we have split our audience into small groups, which rotate through 4
performance arenas. When purchasing tickets IT IS ESSENTIAL that you indicate a group i.e. Group 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6. It
does not matter which group you select, as all groups rotate through each of the 4 performance arenas. Your group
will begin at one of the performance arenas and be led by a Seuss character on your Seussification journey through
the remaining performance arenas.
Your personalised ticket will let you know the order of your journey and where you start.
How many tickets can I buy?
At this stage only TWO tickets per family for EACH show (Matinee and Evening) are being released. This means a
total of 4 tickets over two performances per family.
The aim of the Matinee scheduled for Tuesday the 29th of August at 12pm is to cater for the people who are not
working and to alleviate the pressure on the evening show. This is to allow ALL families the opportunity to purchase
tickets to see their children.
Purchase your TWO tickets per performance and as groups reach capacity you will no longer be able to select tickets.
Remember that our performance arenas are intimate to allow audience and performer interaction and as a result we
can only fit 50 adults per group in the space.
If not sold out, more tickets will be released closer to the date of the show. If you have small children, please feel
free to bring them and sit them on your lap. This will expand the number of adult tickets available at each show.
ACT 1
Groups 1, 2 & 3 will rotate between Ms Peacock’s Foundation Classroom (Room 11), June Elliott Centre and Staffroom
to watch 3 short 10 minutes performances by the Foundation, Level 1 and Level 2 classes.
Groups 4, 5 & 6 will be watching a longer performance of 35 - 40 minutes in the gym that features ALL of the students
from level 3 & 4. There will be enough seating for all of the parents and friends from 3 groups.
There will be a brief INTERMISSION announced over the loud speaker after the first act has completed (after approx.
45 minutes). This intermission will be 10 minutes and will allow the swap of the groups.
ACT 2
Groups 1, 2, & 3 will combine and all go to the gym to watch the Level 3 & 4 piece. Groups 4, 5 & 6 will split into their
smaller groups and rotate between Ms Peacock’s Foundation Classroom (Room 11), June Elliott Centre and Main
Staffroom to watch the Junior School short drama pieces. Your tickets will tell you the order of the rotations specific
for your group. We will also release this information again closer to the performance date.
At the completion of ACT 2 an announcement will be made and you will be able to collect your child and sign them
out with their teacher (evening performance only) from their performance space.

TICKETS
Tickets are ONLY available via https://www.trybooking.com Search for Chelsea Heights.
Select Senior Production and purchase tickets for the:
Matinee on Thursday the 31st August (12:00pm to approx. 1:40 pm) $7 all tickets or
Evening Performance on Thursday the 31st August (6:30 pm to 8:45 pm) $10 adult/$7 child
How does it all work?
You can select your ticket and specific seat for the Senior School show. Please try to fill up the seats, rather than
leaving individual ones vacant. The show is in the gym, there will be a stage so that everyone can see the
performance.
How many tickets can I buy?
At this stage only FOUR tickets per family for EACH show (Matinee and Evening).
This is to allow ALL families the opportunity to purchase tickets to see their children. Remember that our
performance venues are intimate to allow audience and performer interaction, as a result we can only fit 250
adults in the seating.
There is a Matinee scheduled for Thursday the 31st of August at 12pm to cater for the people who may not be at
work on this day and to alleviate the pressure on the evening show.
More tickets will be released closer to the date of the show, if not sold out. If you have small children, having
them sit on your lap would help other families be able to purchase tickets to see the show.
The evening show begins at 6:30pm and will have a short intermission. We endeavour to finish the show at
8:45pm. You will be able to sign your child out with their teacher and collect them from the PA room (Level 5) and
the Grade 6 rooms (Level 6 and 5/6C) at the end of the Evening show only.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me at school if you have any further questions.

Breakfast Club reminder Promotions Team On Friday the 30th of June (the last day of term 2) the
students of Chelsea Heights Primary School came
dressed in our favourite sports clothes to raise money
for Callum Dodson. Callum was a student of C.H.P.S
who graduated in 2006 and was our School Captain. He
is now 24 and has been diagnosed with a rare form of
cancer, located in his bowel. Callum’s mum, Mandy,
owns The Little Coffee Place on Wells Road and has
supported our school, both as a parent and a business
owner. All of the money we raised will be going towards
the family’s medical costs. We are proud to say we
raised $580 for the Dodson family.

Woolworths Earn and Learn is Back!
Chelsea Heights Primary School is very excited to announce that we will
be participating in this year’s Woolworths Earn & Learn program.
Through this program we will be able to get new educational resources
for our classrooms. All we need you to do is shop for your groceries at
Woolworths.
From Wednesday 26th July to Tuesday 19th September we are collecting Woolworths Earn & Learn
Stickers. You will receive one Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker for every $10 spent (excluding liquor,
tobacco and gift cards).
A Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker Sheet will be in each classroom. Your child can bring their stickers
and place them on the provided sheet. Once this is completed the teacher will then drop it into our
Collection Box here at school.
At the end of the promotion, we’ll be able to use the points we have accumulated to claim a variety
educational items. The range is extensive and offers lots of items ideal for our students – including
resources for Maths, English, Science and some fantastic fun supplies for Arts & Craft, Sport and for our
library.
In 2016 we were able to collect just under 30,000 stickers, it would be great if we could aim to get
50,000 stickers this year. We will also be having a collection box in the Chelsea Woolworths, which will
hopefully allow us to gain even more Earn & Learn Stickers.
We thank you for all of your support with our Earn & Learn Program.
Official Launch of the Bicentennial
Skate and Youth Park
City of Kingston will be hosting the official
Launch of the Bicentennial Skate and Youth
Park between 4:00 – 4:45 pm on Thursday 3rd
August.
As CHPS is adjacent to the Park and a local
facility for students and local families, it would
be great if you could attend and that during
the launch there will be youth skating and
enjoying this new addition to the Bicentennial
Park precinct.
The launch will be a very brief proceeding with
a ribbon cutting and speech by government
funding bodies.
Proposed Edithvale/Chelsea/ Bonbeach Bus Route
Patterson River Secondary College is currently seeking feedback on a proposed new bus route
to better service students from the suburbs of Edithvale, Chelsea and Bonbeach. The proposed
bus would be operated via the school and require students to purchase tickets via the office
(similar to our Sandhurst Nuline bus). The proposed route would save a student one hour per
day in travel if commuting by public transport from Chelsea. If you live in one of these suburbs,
we would greatly appreciate if you could take the time to fill out a quick survey . The college
will use this information to make potential modifications to the route prior to getting quotes
from bus companies.
Click here for further details on the proposed bus route along with all existing bus routes.
