Shaddai May 2018 3
Greetings Shaddai!!!
Spring is here, flowers are blooming, and so is Shaddai!!! We have stayed busy with lots more to come. By the time this article gets to you in the Voice, we will have had the Paper Crusade (April 21) and I know it will be another great success. We will have also had a Work Day at the Temple on April 28. Let’s make Shaddai look as beautiful as all of the creations around us that God has blessed us with.
We have quite a few events coming up in May and June. May 12 will be another dance at the Temple with the Chad Street Band. If you came to the last dance we had with them, then you already know what a great band they are and how much fun can be had. Tickets are $15 for a single, $25 for a couple. It will be BYOB, so put your dancing shoes on and let’s have a great time!
Dixie will be here before we know it. The dates are May 16-19. What a great time to be with Nobles from other Temples, the Banquets, Competitions. This is a wonderful opportunity to renew friendships, make new ones, share ideas and enjoy a wonder-ful weekend together with some of the most amazing people in the world – Shriners! If you would like more information on all of the events that will be going on at Dixie, check out the web site at Dixieshrineassociation.com. There is a complete schedule of all events and the Temples that will be attending.
The Third Annual Shaddai Shrine Rodeo will be June 1 and 2 at the Bay County Fairgrounds. I am sure our Rodeo Chairman, Joe Paul, could use some help. Please do not hesitate to contact him, the office or any Divan member if you would like to lend a hand. If we all work together, we can make this another great success for Shaddai.
Mark your calendars for the dates that have been mentioned above. The more you can attend, the more fun you can have! Also check the Voice each month. The Bingo schedule is on each month. Each Unit has a designated month, so please make sure your Unit is aware of which month they are responsible for. There are other dates also on the Voice calendar that I may have missed. This is a great way to be sure you don’t miss a thing.
Nobles, please don’t forget our Stated Meetings the third Friday of each month. Come share your ideas, voice your concerns and opinions and stay informed of everything that is happening at Shaddai. It is important that we hear your voice so that we can all work together to keep Shaddai at it’s best. After all, we ARE the Best Temple in Shrinedom.
In closing, I ask each and every one of you to keep our hospitals, staff, fellow nobles and their families in your daily prayers. Most of all, our Shriner Children. They are the reason we do what we do as Shriners!
God Bless You All! Greg Williams Potentate

Brothers,
Following is a partial reprint of a past article, but it seemed appropriate…
How can I make a difference? We must start in our own inner circles.
Nurture and develop those bonds with our family and brothers. Don’t let petty
differences sever the unity that is the foundation of our fraternity. Sure, we
can disagree and debate but we must always walk out the door friends and
brothers. We must come together,
stay together, and be one in our vision and our goals. Not just for Shaddai
Shrine, Shriners International, or our individual units, but for the greater
good of our Brotherhood.
Don’t forget the Rodeo on June 1st
and 2nd
. See Joe Paul for more info. This is a great opportunity for the units
to participate as food vendors.
The Whole Beef Raffle is still ongoing.
The drawing will be on November 2nd
.
See John Wheat or any divan member for tickets.
I’m proud to call you all my brothers.

Nobles and Ladies:
As we start the summer season, please take care as you travel with
your families. We are looking for-ward to the temple dance 12 May.
Chad Street has a great band and puts on a good show. This is also a
fund raiser for the Temple. Please come out and support the Potentate
and Divan in this and many other fund raisers we will be having.
The Rodeo is coming fast. I have
food vendors set up and now need sponsors. If you have sponsored in
the past, please consider it again this year. Also come out and watch the
Rodeo. We have several champions from last year coming to compete.
By the time you read this, we will have finished with the Paper Drive.
Thanks to all who helped Mark Drag-on with this fund raiser for the trans-
portation fund.
Our Gospel sing is also fast ap-proaching, and we will have the en-
tertainment set very soon. It will be 21 July 2018.
As my plate is not totally full, if any of the units need help with fund raising
for the unit, let me know and I will be glad to help if I can.
Thank you again for your courtesies given to Heidi and Myself. God
Bless you and your family, and May
God Bless the United States of America.

Nobles & Ladies:
I would like to thank all the nobles who participated in our paper crusade on Sat-urday April 21
st, as for those who did not participate, shame on you. It was your
best opportunity to support our hospitals and the whole reason why we became Shriners. To take care of the children who cannot care for themselves. However, you will have another opportunity to show your support, as our Illustrious Poten-tate has scheduled another paper crusade on September 8
th. I would like to see
more participation from those who cannot work in the highways but could donate an hour or two of their time in front of a Wal-Mart collecting donations. We did very well at the Front Beach Road Wal-Mart on Saturday April 21
st, but only had a
total of 6 nobles helping, which meant that three of those nobles devoted 8 hours of their Saturday to the cause. If we could get more participation, we could keep the shifts at the stores down to an hour or two, instead of the burden falling on the shoulders of a few. For those of you who worked the streets and highways, I commend you and thank you whole heartedly for your devotion to our efforts. It is hard to beat up on volunteers, but let your heart be your guide, you know if you could have helped or not, enough about that.
This month I would like to take the opportunity to praise one of our past Poten-tates whose service to our Children’s Office is above and beyond the call of duty. Since taking over the Children’s Office he has single handedly reduced the cost of transportation by invoking the practice of self-drives. The Temple no longer has the burden of the up keep of three or four vans, as well as the cost of rooms and meals for nobles who drove patients and their guardians to and from the hospi-tals. Illustrious Jim Matchkus goes about his business organizing and arranging the transportation of all our patients with little or no accolades. Thank you, Illustri-ous Sir Jim Matchkus, for you continued devotion to Shaddai Temple!
Just another reminder of the 2018 Whole Beef Raffle, brother John Wheat is cur-rently distributing tickets to all the units. The drawing for this raffle is not until No-vember, so we have plenty of time to sell these tickets. The tickets practically sell themselves, but you have got to make people aware of it. Our Illustrious Poten-tate would like to see us double the amount we raised last year. I believe that this goal is definitely attainable. We have started the sale of the tickets well ahead of when we began last year, giving us nearly 10 months to sell them. If we all sold just 20 tickets each that would total up to 12,000 tickets yielding $20,000 for the general fund. So, let’s all get busy selling those Whole Beef Raffle tickets!
May God Bless Each & Every one of You, My Beloved Brethren
Howdy Nobles and Ladies,
I trust everyone is enjoying the spring weather.
Don’t forget this month we have an-other dance on May 12, 2018. Chad Street & Band are performing. If you missed him in January, then here is your chance to see him perform. Tickets are on sale now at the Temple office.
April was a busy month and a tip of the fez to the following: Thanks to the Clowns for putting together an out-standing Easter Egg Hunt and Pan-cake Breakfast. Also, I would like to thank the Nobility and our High Priest and Prophet Mark Dragon, for making the Paper Crusade a successful one. We had a great turn out manning the streets and working for the kids! I am excited to see what the final totals are.
Don’t to forget about the Fall Ceremo-nial this October. Keep on looking for new Nobles. Remember, we are all on the membership committee, espe-cially the recruitment side! If you have someone you think would make a great Shriner then use the Web fez referral system, https://webfez.shrinenet.org/referral, to get their journey started.
As the month winds down, I hope you all have an enjoyable and safe Memo-rial Day Weekend.
God Bless the Shrine, God Bless our Troops and God Bless America!

Clowns Doug Bastendorf
Nobles and Ladies,
Well we are into May and the paper crusade and pancake breakfast are behind us now. I believe we did well in both and that’s the good thing. We are going forward with a temple dance on May 12
th and then on to Dixie
Shrine summer event, and the Shad-dai Clowns will be competing in the Clown Competitions and annual pa-rade. Hope you will come out and cheer us on. If you haven’t seen a competition this is your chance. Look for an announcement for day and times.
This month is fairly light for events but coming in June, the 1
st & 2
nd is the
Shaddai Shrine Rodeo. PLEASE come out and support this event and see some different kind of sporting events. The vendors will be selling a lot of favorite foods and desserts that will please your palate.
Remember that a child’s laughter is what we are after! Keep smiling and make people wonder what you are up too.
Fraternally yours, Doug Bastendorf

HOW TO KILL YOUR LODGE
Don’t come.
When you do come, come late.
Never accept an office. It is better to stay
outside and criticize.
The officers asked for the job, let them do
all the work.
Never pay your dues in advance. Wait until you get your moneys worth and then
wait a while longer.
It is good to tell your officers failings to
visitors, then might be a long time finding
them out.
If there are a few zealous workers in the
Lodge inform everyone the Lodge is run
be a clique.
Disagree with established rules and regu-
lations, let people know you have a mind
of your own.
Keep talking to the brother next to you in
Lodge. It makes for good fellowship.
If one brother has said or done something
you don’t like, be mad at the whole
Lodge.
