Parish Annual MeetingNovember 13, 2016

The parishioners met in the Sanctuary of the church after the worship service. Rev. Whit Stodghill, Priest-During-the-Interim was in attendance.

Rev. Whit delivered a “state of the church” in her sermon.

Church committee and pre-school committee reports were available for everyone.

Very exciting upcoming year for the Search Committee as we search for our new rector. There is concern that we may not have enough money to hire a full-time rector. Stewardship campaign is very important this year as our budget is prepared. Search Committee costs may include traveling costs for Search Committee members to go out of town to attend services of the candidate. Also, we may have moving costs if we hire someone out of town.

There were no questions from anyone.

There was the election of vestry members by acclamation of the congregation. They were Beth Karwieck, Alan Lodge, and Eric Martin.

We expressed our thanks to Joe John for his service on the Vestry for the past four years.

withtheRedDoors–Symbolicofawarm&welcomingheart.Thoseofus,whoregularlyattendSt.

James,knowthis.Itisourministerialduty,tolettherestoftheworldoratleastourlittlecornerof

theworld(called“community”)knowsthis.Toletthecommunityknow,whoweare,whatwe

believe,whatwestandfor,andagain,toall,youarewelcomehere.

LastSunday,TheReverendWhitStodghill,ourRectorintheInterim,fornearlyayearandahalf,left

St.James.Beforeleaving,Whitarrangedfor“SupplyPriest”toserviceSt.James(withafewopen

dates)intoearlyJanuary2018,ifnecessary.Ithinkitisadifficultposition,beingthe“Interim

Rector”.Forallofyourgenerousgiving;ofknowledge,service,time&effort,ThankYouWhit.

Severalweeksago,intheearlyformationandtheorganizingoftheStewardshipcampaign.Iwas

oftentradingemailsandtalkingonthephonewithLarryProfancik&HenriettaPepper.Weallsaid

thesamething~atthesametime.There’ssomethingspecialaboutSt.James.“Theworship@St.

James,justfeelsright”.

IjustmentionedLarryandHenrietta,ourStewardshipco-Chairs.Theyacceptedthecall(the

asking)tobetheleadersofourStewardshipdrive.Andwhatajobtheydid!WeAllThankYou;

LarryandHenrietta.

AlongwithourStewardshipco-Chairs,others,including;JoeJohn,TomSabin,theVestry,andthe

movingtestimonialsofmany,wehadatruly“professional”Stewardshipcampaign.Thankyouall.

AllIstatedabouttheStewardshipcampaignisverytrue,whatisalsoverytrue(aswespeak)sofar

23pledgeshavebeenturnedin—pledgedamountof$61,424.Irealizethatpledgeswillbe

cominginforthenextmonth&half(andevenbeyond).Ifyouhaven’tturnedinyourpledgecard,

pleasedosoassoonaspossible.Themessage,oftenrepeatedduringthecampaign,“Weneed

pledgedamountsinordertoestablishabudget”.

Let’stalkaboutourbiggestexpense,anewRector.TheSearchCommitteeselectedanexcellent

candidate.TheentireVestrymetourprospectiveRector—allwereimpressed.St.Jamescannot

enterintoacontract,calledaLetterofAgreement,withoutarealisticbudget.TheSeniorWarden

doesn’tdecideifwegetanewRector—YouDecideifwegetanewRector.But,asSeniorWarden,

Ihaveanethicalobligation,topractice,soundfinancialandbudgetaryoversight.

Again,ifyouhaven’tturnedinyourPledgeCard,pleasedoso—assoonaspossible.

Anotheroutstandingco-Chairteam(besidesLarry&Henrietta)—ConnieCoartneyandBethWebb

oftheSearchCommittee.AlsoonthismostimportantcommitteewereDebbieBergman,Kenny

Hoback,AlanWeller,BethKarweick,SusanHancockandDebbieStover.TheSearchCommitteedid

anexcellentjob.Asmentionedearlier,theSearchCommittee’sselectedcandidate,our

prospectivenewRectorisnowinnegotiationwiththeVestry.TotheentireSearchCommittee~

Theannualmeetingisatimetobeproudofouraccomplishments,toexaminewhatwearedoing

rightandwrong.Tothankoneanother,toforgiveoneanother,tobethankfulwehaveeachother,

andourbelovedSt.James.Andmostimportantly,wehaveaChurchthatwelcomesall,and

proudlyproclaims,JesusChristasourLordandSavior.

IwasborninLouisville,KYtoBillandRuthPalmer.IwasbaptizedasaninfantatChristChurchCathedralwhereweattendedchurch.Myunclewaseventhesextonthere.

WeleftChristChurchtoattendamorelocalchurchonWestportRoad.Asateen,Ireallywasn’tinterestedingoingtochurch,soourfamilyjuststoppedattending.Aftermyhighschoolgraduation,wemovedtoLaGrangeandjustlovedthepeacefulfeelingoflivingon5acres.

IwasnoteventhinkingofreturningtochurchuntilIhadmychildrenandrealizedsomethingwaslackinginmylife.February2001wasourfirstvisittoSt.James’.Sincethatday,wehavewalkedthroughthebeautifulreddoorseverySundayandmanydaysduringtheweek.Thischurchhasbeenablessingtomywonderfulboysandme.Ihave

metsomanywonderfulpeopletherethatIcallmydearfriends.

Iamfinallyreadytotakeonanewchallenge,servingontheVestry.Myyoungestson,William,isaseniorandwillbeleavingforMarinebootcampJune18,2018.IlookforwardtoworkingjoyouslywitheverySt.James’member.

IamathirdgenerationEpiscopalian.Wehavetwogrownchildren,Kate,agraduatefromMississippiStateUniversityandaneventplannerandJay,aMarineveteranofIraqandAfghanistan,anEMTandfirefighterandDixieourgranddog.

IgraduatedfromWesternKYUniversity(won’tmentiontheyear)withaBAinOldTestamentandReligiousStudies.

IhaveworkedforPNCBankfor30yearsandamgettingreadytoretireinJanuary,2018fromPNCWealthManagement.

IamcurrentlyaDOKsisterandco-chairoftheAltarGuildwithRitaCunningham.
