ABSTRACT
In this paper we elaborated the study on perforated plate by numerical model by varying the holes geometrically . In this
process we are going to analyze the velocity variation through the perforated plate and the comparison is done with the air
filters which are incorporated in the automobile silencers as air filters which obstruct the impurit ies . In this approach the
perforated plate has been designed and analyzed in CATIA V5 R19 and ANSYS R15 (FLUENT) module is considered .Keywords: perforated plate, velocity , fluent , automobiles.
1.INTRODUCTION
perforated plates are designed for the purification and filtration of air and the other flowing materials to avoid theunwanted substances and the variation of velocity by considering the equivalent normal velocity is
n p− − p+ = ρcξ v
pressure created in the normal direction on both sides of the perforated plate
p+ p−
ρ is the mean density of the fluid
= 1 (2.4+0.02f ) c ξ ρ σ in SI units, i = −1
σ is the porosity, The sample porosity used in the experiment was 4.2 %.
2.EXPERIMENTAL WORK
The plate is made of 321 SS with a radius of 1384 mm and a thickness of 30 mm and 3 mm. The physical properties of
this material at 310ºC are as follows: Young’s modulus = 173.0 GPa, Poisson’s ratio = 0.3 and mass density = 8027
kg/m3. , the Bessel-Fourier expansion term s is set to 200 and the expanding term m (or M) for the admissible function
is set to 40, which gives a sufficiently accurate solution by convergence.

The convergence rate of the eigen frequencies will be nearly identical when extracting modes in the midrange andhigher end of the spectrum as when extracting the lowest modes.
the radius of the plate and pitch of the hole are 1384 mm and 72 mm. . The best means of finding the equivalent
constant is as follows:
(a) Develop a finite element model for solid plates and perforated plates with various ligament efficiencies.
(b) Perform the modal analyses for the perforated and solid plates with original properties.
3.RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
the perforated plate has been designed and analyzed as per the required dimensions and the following figures represent
the von-mises stresses and the factor of safety and the pressure variation in and out of the perforated plate and the
maximum pressure is applied where the reduction of diameter has been
a) von-misses stresses b) factor of safety

c) formation and division of plate mesh d) pressure variation
e) velocity variation through the perforated plates and the direction of flow can be modified
4.CONCLUSION
The velocity variation in perforated plate has been determined by designing the perforated plate in CATIA and ANSYS
