How long, Lord, am I to cry for help while you will not listen; to cry ‘Oppression!’ in your ear and you will not save? Why do you set injustice before me, why do you look on where there is tyranny? Outrage and violence, this is all I see, all is contention, and discord flourishes. Then the Lord answered and said,
‘Write the vision down, inscribe it on tablets to be easily read, since this vision is for its own time only: eager for its own fulfilment, it does not deceive; if it comes slowly, wait, for come it will, without fail. See how he flags, he whose soul is not at rights, but the upright man will live by his faithfulness.’
(R.) If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
Come, ring out our joy to the Lord; hail the rock who saves us. Let us come before him, giving thanks, with songs let us hail the Lord. (R.)
Come in; let us bow and bend low; let us kneel before the God who made us for he is our God and we the people who belong to his pasture, the flock that is led by his hand. (R.)
O that today you would listen to his voice! ‘Harden not your hearts as at Meribah, as on that day at Massah in the desert when your fathers put me to the test; when they tried me, though they saw my
work.’ (R.)
I am reminding you to fan into a flame the gift that God gave you when I laid my hands on you. God’s gift was not a spirit of timidity, but the Spirit of power, and love, and self-control. So you are never to be ashamed of witnessing to the Lord, or ashamed of me for being his prisoner; but with me, bear the hardships for the sake of the Good News, relying on the power of God.
Keep as your pattern the sound teaching you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. You have been trusted to look after something precious; guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.
Alleluia, alleluia! The word of the Lord stands for ever; it is the word given to you, the Good News. Alleluia!
The apostles said to the Lord, ‘Increase our faith.’ The Lord replied, ‘Were your faith the size of a mustard seed you could say to this mulberry tree, “Be uprooted and planted in the sea”, and it would obey you. ‘Which of you, with a servant ploughing or minding sheep, would say to him when he returned from the fields, “Come and have your meal immediately”? Would he not be more likely to say, “Get my supper laid; make yourself tidy and wait on me while I eat and drink. You can eat and drink yourself afterwards”? Must he be grateful to the servant for doing what he was told? So with you: when you have done all you have been told to do, say, “We are merely servants: we have done no more than our duty.”’

It is wonderful to be back in the ministerial saddle. Thanks to Bishop Austen for helping out in my absence. It was nice to catch up with the Bishop again as I passed through the district Sunday/Monday before a couple of days of diocesan commitments. I must say he is looking healthier than the last couple off times that he was here. They are obviously taking good care of him in Sydney.
Emene’s ordination is just around the corner, only a few weeks to go. As we did for Fr Vitalis and for Bishop Tim, as one of his gifts, we will be offering Emene a Spiritual Bouquet from the parish. I know that Fr Vitalis still treasures his very much.
For those unfamiliar with the practice, or who have forgotten all about it, a Spiritual Bouquet is the gift of prayers or pious practices for someone’s intentions on a special occasion. One can offer to pray a number of rosaries, attend Mass for their intention, have a Mass offered for them, pray a novena, pay a visit to the Blessed Sacrament, perform a work of mercy, fast for a day, etc.
Cards are available in each church on which you can select prayers or pious practices to offer for Emene’s intentions. There is a large card for you to return which will be presented as part of the Bouquet and a small
card as your own personal reminder. Please return your card to the office or drop it on any collection plate next weekend.
This weekend, we have the delight, at the Saturday evening Mass of baptising Acacia (and her son Hudson) and of receiving Renee and Vanessa into the Church, of celebrating their confirmations, and joining them in their First Holy Communions. Please pray that their faith journeys as members of the Church will be long and fruitful.
It is not that long ago that we completed a year’s worth of sacramental preparations and celebrations for our younger parishioners. This week, we begin again with children and their families preparing for First Reconciliation. Please keep these children in your prayers.
Next Saturday, our Knights of the Southern Cross are once again leading us in an annual public recitation of the Rosary during this month of the Rosary. When the weather permits us to pray in the park, it is always a beautiful moment. Please join us in prayer.

Understanding the rite of ordination: Handing over of the Bread and Wine : The introduction to the ritual says, “the handing over of the bread and wine, placed into the hands of the newly
ordained Priests, points to their duty of presiding at the celebration of the Eucharist and of following Christ crucified.” A chalice already filled with wine mixed with water and a paten with bread is brought forward from amidst the assembled Local Church. The Bishop places these in the hands of the newly ordained and says, “Receive the oblation of the holy people, to be offered to God. Understand what you do, imitate what you celebrate, and conform your life to the mystery of the Lord's Cross.”
Question:
I volunteer every once in a while. How can I incorporate serving the poor in my everyday life?
Answer:
In the Gospels, Jesus is very clear about emphasizing outreach to vulnerable persons on the margins of society. These may be the materially poor, the disabled, the lonely, or any others whose circumstances drive them from mainstream society. We can all respond to Christ's call to love by incorporating direct service into our regular life routine. Here are some ideas to find your niche: Consider your life. Before you look for direct service opportunities, consider your schedule, commitment levels, and personal gifts. When can you help out and how regularly? Where have you volunteered in the past that has felt like a good fit? Do you have any particular skills or personality traits that lend you to particular work? Do some research. There are a lot of structured ways you can get involved in your community. Your parish might have a social concerns outreach program. If not, ask friends and family. A simple online search for local nonprofits can also expose you to new opportunities. Be open to God's invitation. The chance to serve may be closer than you think. Befriending an elderly neighbour, widowed and far from children, is an act of serving the poor. Keep your eyes and heart open!

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace. Amen. May their souls
and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
