JOB DESCRIPTION
Post: Information and Advice Officer
Responsible to: Information, Advice and Advocacy Team LeaderKey Relationships: Other staff and volunteers working in Age UK
Wigan Borough; members of the public Salary: £9.08 per hourHours of work: 15 hours per week
Notes:This job is subject to Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) disclosure procedures.This is a temporary role until 12 March 2021.
Purpose of this Post
To provide support to older people on a range of issues, in particular supporting people to maximise their income and advising on keeping their homes warm.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
1. To provide information and advice on a range of issues relevant to older people, their relatives/carers. Currently, this is mainly by phone or though IT systems.
2. To support older people to increasing their income by advising on benefits they are entitled to and filling out benefits forms.
3. To ensure older people get the support they need to keep their homes warm by identifying those at risk of fuel poverty, undertaking warm homes assessments and referring to relevant agencies.
4. To ensure that there is effective record-keeping of the enquiries made, support given and impact of the work done, using the organisation’s Charitylog database.
5. To produce information as requested by the Information, Advice and Advocacy Team Leader, including case studies.

6. To support the organisation to fulfil its responsibilities under Health and Safety. You may be asked to take on roles such as First Aider, Health and Safety representative or Fire Marshall for which appropriate training will be given.
7. To support students on placements. This may include having students that shadow your work or performing a supervisory role. Appropriate training will be given.
8. To participate in Age UK Wigan Borough promotional events as required.
9. To work within all the guidelines, policies and procedures as set out by Age UK Wigan Borough.
10.To attend Induction, Training and any Staff Meetings as and when required.
11.To carry out any other duties as may be requested which are consistent with the duties and responsibilities of the post.
